>> Justin: Hey, this is Justin Yu, Assistant Editor for CNET.com and we're here taking a first look at the Gateway LX681001 Desktop computer. Now you can get this model at Best Buy for under 800 bucks which will net you a 2.3 GH quad core processor, 8 GB of memory and a dedicated InVideo GeForce GT120 graphics card. Now the chassis features very clean lines and even hides several audio video USB and Firewire ports behind these hinged covers. We also really like that Gateway includes a couple of these front-loading slots for SATA hard drives and they make it really easy to add more storage by plugging in a simple cable. Now around back you'll find more audio visual ports as well as an Ethernet jack and unlike most of the systems in this mid-range category we don't expect to see WiFi built in but we'd like to see an industry shift toward wireless especially since it's a relatively cheap way to eliminate cable clutter. Now taking a look inside the computer Gateway gives you plenty of room for future expansion by way of an additional optical bay, a PCI slot and you can even get another PCIE x1 expansion card in there if you take out the 56K modem card. Now one thing you should keep in mind is that all 4 memory slots are currently filled with Dims totally maximum of 8 GB capacity but it's still the largest amount of RAM we've seen at this price-point and it's sure to get you through a majority of functions in the foreseeable future. So Gateway also sweetens the deal by throwing in a TV tuner card with a remote as well as HDMI output on the graphics card so you can easily watch TV on your computer or stream HD content from the Internet onto a big screen. Now after running our benchmark test and comparing its scores to a few other similarly priced systems the Gateway shows that its ample memory and faster graphics card help it excel better in a gaming environment like World of Warcraft or the SIMS series, however, it does fall a little short of its direct competitor the Dell XPS430121B that one flaunts a more aggressive processor and faster DVR3 memory. But overall the Gateway will stretch your dollar further if you're heavily into multi-media editing or light gaming but if you're shopping specifically for a straight-shooter in the performance department the Dell XPS430121B offers a faster CPU for the same relative price. So I'm Justin Yu and this is the Gateway LX681001. ^E00:02:25

The Gateway One ZX6810-01 makes a strong first impression for Windows 7-based all-in-ones PCs, with fast performance and an attractive case design. Its touch input and accompanying applications fall flat, but there's enough respectable computer here that it's worth a look. Our only suggestion is that you wait to inspect the rest of the new Windows 7 crowd once they are released.
