-I'm Scott Stein, senior editor at CNET.com and this is the Gateway ID47HO2U. Now, if you're going back to school shopping or looking for a budget laptop, Gateway makes a few models that may not know about, and there only 2, the NB and the ID series. Both top out at $699, so they are both really budget laptops. The ID is maybe a little more fancy than the NB line. We prefer it because of the fact that it's smaller. It's a 14-inch laptop. It's got a nice sleek design actually something you may not know currently existing Gateway's lineup, and everything works well, the touchpad even it looks weird works really well and the specs are great. It's got a Core i5 processor, 500 gigabyte hard drive, 4 gigs of ram for that $699 price. Maybe you're looking for something that's even cheaper. Maybe you say hey $500 is a budget laptop to me. Well, you're right, $500 would have been an ideal price though maybe hard to achieve. At least $100 list would have been perfect. 699 is really not bad for what you're getting in this package and it also has a USB 3.0 port. You could buy a lot of other laptops from other manufacturers and laptops are getting cheaper especially Windows [unk] seemingly every month, but to us this sounds like a really good value and it's got a 6-hour battery life on our test, which is great. Take that into a compact package, add an optical drive which is thrown in here and really does compete with some of the best 14-inch laptops that we have seen especially in this price range. Take a look at it. It's the Gateway ID47HO2U. I'm Scott Stein at CNET.com.
The solid, no-surprises HP ProBook 6360b is a well-priced 13-inch laptop with up-to-date specs, but it's nothing that a consumer couldn't get in a better-looking design somewhere else.
A standout among budget midsize laptops, the 14.1-inch Gateway T-6836 marries strong performance and battery life with a compact, well-designed case.
The budget-priced 15-inch Gateway NV55S05u laptop, with its AMD A8 processor, is hard to beat--provided you can live with an unimpressive battery life.
The Gateway T-6330U's attractive case design and lengthy battery life make it a good pick for budget-minded shoppers who want a more portable midsize laptop.
The 11-inch, AMD-powered Gateway LT3103u does well on price and performance, but drops the ball on battery life when compared with the competition.
The Toshiba Tecra M4 is a full-featured laptop that can occasionally be used as a tablet.
Although it costs more than competing 30-inch LCDs, the Gateway XHD3000 goes an extremely long way toward justifying its high price with a long list of features and outstanding performance. This may be our first product to inspire a video hijacking, as well.
The Gateway M320's scant battery life undercuts its status as an otherwise decent, all-around thin-and-light laptop.
It may not have the latest components or top security, but the Gateway M460S offers top performance, long battery life, and a choice of displays to satisfy corporate users of all stripes.
Gateway's budget E-1500D is a good fit for small businesses that need professional system management features at a low price, although necessary options can double the cost.
