>> Hi, this is Eric Franklin, Assistant Labs Manager for CNET Labs, and today we're looking at the Gateway FHD2400 24-inch display. This display has a nice glossy bezel on the front with a nice silver overlay in the bottom here. It's 500 bucks, but for an extra 50 bucks you can actually get this speaker bar that hooks very easily onto the bottom. What we like about this monitor is that it has a lot of connection options. It has component composite, VGA, DVI, the normal stuff, audio inputs, has four USB inputs. We like the glossy display and it really helps when you're playing games. The game we tested was World of Warcraft. A lot of the characters were a little jaggy on the edges, but the glossy display actually smoothes that out. The display has some trouble in our labs base DisplayMate test. We found that the monitor had trouble reproducing broad and fine details. In our DVD test, Kill Bill Volume One, we found that the colors didn't pop as well as we expected. Colors looked very bland compared to what we usually see in displays of, you know, this size and this price. The display has Gateway's unique Menu OSD and what we found is that, the menu is deep, it's very deep. So, once you go into the Picture and in Brightness, and then you wanna adjust the brightness, and then after a couple of seconds the OSD disappears, like that. So in order to -- okay so, I want to check out the brightness, so in order to get back, I have to go all the way through the menu once again, and I'm accompanied by this annoying little chime that happens every time I press any of these buttons. Although this display has a very sleek design, and a nice glossy screen, we found that it really stumbled in our labs base test. So, although no one test was, you know, a deal breaker, we found that it had enough negative tests that we can't give a stronger recommendation for this product. I'm Eric Franklin, and this has been the Gateway FHD2400 24-inch display. ^M00:01:58 [ Music ]

Gateway FHD2400 (24-inch) Review
The good: A lot of connections including component and HDMI, plus four USB ports; screen coating smoothes out images; speaker bar option for built-in sound; pleasing aesthetic design.
The bad: Poor performance in key DisplayMate tests; backlight bleed through on dark scenes that you can clearly see under normal lighting conditions; optional speakers exhibited some distortion.
The bottom line: Although this 24-inch LCD delivers with an abundance of features and a sleek design, the Gateway FHD2400 stumbled in the labs. No single performance problem is a deal breaker, but there are enough of them to prevent a stronger recommendation.
