I'm Antuan Goodwin, and this is your First Look at the Garmin Nuvi 205W GPS Navigator. The Nuvi 205W's form factor will be immediately familiar to anyone who's ever used a Garmin PND. Comparing it to the older Garmin Nuvi 200, we can see that aside from the larger screen on the 205W for a widescreen model, not much has changed externally in two years for the Garmin Nuvi. Now, on the inside, the Nuvi 205W benefits from much faster start up and satellite lock times than the old model, as well as much more responsive touchscreen. The "Where Am I" tool displays your current latitude, longitude, and elevation, and more importantly, the nearest street address and intersection. Here you'll also find quick links to the nearest hospital, police station, or gas station. This feature would be very handy in the case of an emergency. The 205W does not feature text to speech, so it can't read street names and POI names aloud.

When compared to the competition from Tom-Tom, the Nuvi doesn't come with as many advance features, but with an interface that's easier to understand, that may not be such a bad thing for non-techies. Garmin Nuvi 205W Review
The good: The Garmin Nuvi 205W features a large touch screen and an easy to understand interface. Start-up, destination entry, and trip routing/rerouting times are slightly faster than the competition. "Where am I?" feature is very useful for emergencies.
The bad: The Nuvi 205W's feature set is rather limited. Mounting cradle is bulkier than competing models and not very portable.
The bottom line: As entry-level GPS navigators go, the Garmin Nuvi 205W is still one of the best choices available for users who want speedy performance without breaking the bank.
