"Slither" trailer

"Slither" is an edgy blend of heart-stopping terror, wry humor and surprising humanity from genre-bending screenwriter James Gunn, whose "Dawn of the Dead" became one of 2004's most surprising hits. The sleepy town of Wheelsy could be any small town in America-somewhat quaint and gentle, peopled with friendly folks who mind their own business. But just beneath the surface charm, something unnamed and evil has arrived...and is growing. No one seems to notice as telephone poles become clogged with missing pet flyers, or when one of the town's richest citizens, Grant Grant (Michael Rooker), begins to act strangely. But when farmers' livestock turn up horribly mutilated and a young woman goes missing, Sheriff Bill Pardy (Nathan Fillion) and his team, aided by Grant's wife Starla (Elizabeth Banks), uncover the dark force laying siege to their town...and come face-to-face with an older-than-time organism intent on absorbing and devouring all life on Earth. "Slither" is the feature film directing debut of screenwriter James Gunn and stars Nathan Fillion, Elizabeth Banks, Gregg Henry and Michael Rooker.

SF IndieFest trailer "Smok'd"

Haley is a young stripper in a world of drugs, prostitution, and violence. Her boyfriend J.J. is a petty thug tired of nickel and diming his way through life. With a huge payoff in mind, he forces Haley to seduce a strip club patron named Big Game James. An ambush quickly follows, but it all goes bad and ends with J.J. bludgeoning James. He takes the phone, a .38 revolver, and Big Game's black 1964 Chevy Impala. Now a wanted man, J.J. slips on his black sunglasses to protect himself from the hostile elements and proceeds to drag Haley down the sleazy streets, past the trashy joints to the scuzziest depths of the City by the Bay.

Haley meets a lonely cab driver named Mark and sees a possible way out of her desperate situation, while J.J. grows even more reckless and destructive. Meanwhile, Big Game James (who was terribly forked over) staggers back upright, and covers himself with bandages. Thinking of nothing but revenge, the bloodied mummified thug embarks on his quest for revenge on the couple who let him live.

"Lonesome Jim" trailer

Jim (Casey Affleck) begrudgingly returns to his hometown in rural Indiana after failing to make it on his own in New York. He soon remembers why he left: a doting but overbearing mother (Mary Kay Place), a distant father (Seymour Cassel), and a depressed older brother (Kevin Corrigan) whose ?accidents? seem suspect at best.

Jim is soon forced to take on his brother?s duties ? working at his parent?s factory and helping out with his two rambunctious nieces. Crippled by obligations and anxieties, Jim trudges on through every day monotones and the family?s collapse after mom is mistakenly taken for a suburban drug smuggler.

Almost miraculously, hope springs from his developing relationship with a local nurse (Liv Tyler) and her young son, and Jim slowly learns to move forward without leaving anyone behind. LONESOME JIM is directed by Steve Buscemi and features heartfelt performances by Casey Affleck, Liv Tyler and Mary Kay Place.

Steve Buscemi?s seamless direction and James C. Strouse?s thoughtful script paint a picture of working-class characters filled with the comedy and rich details of everyday life.

"Dirty" trailer

In a city ravaged by violent crime, the police department's anti-gang task force uses any means at its disposal to get the bad guys off the streets, with cops often acting as judge, jury and executioner. As the unit's self-justifying brutality and corruption spiral further out of control, gang member-turned-cop Armando Sancho (Clifton Collins Jr.) begins to question the life he and his partner Salim Adel (Cuba Gooding Jr.) have chosen. So when Internal Affairs agents investigating the division's abuses offer him a deal to come clean about the unit's misdeeds, Sancho must decide whether to heed his conscience or his loyalty to his fellow officers. On the hot, smoggy day Salim and Sancho are scheduled to testify to IA, the two rogue cops agree to run a lucrative, illegal operation for the station's top brass (Keith David and Cole Hauser). As their increasingly bloody mission takes them from one end to the other of the sprawling city they've sworn to protect and serve, Salim and Sancho learn that getting clean isn't nearly as easy as being "Dirty". Wyclef John also stars.

"Murderball" trailer

Featuring fierce rivalry, stopwatch suspense, and larger-than-life personalities, "Murderball", winner of the Documentary Audience Award and a Special Jury Prize for Editing at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival, is a film about tough, highly competitive rugby players. Quadriplegic rugby players. Whether by car wreck, fist fight, gun shot, or rogue bacteria, these men were forced to live life sitting down. In their own version of the full-contact sport, they smash the hell out of each other in custom-made gladiator-like wheelchairs. And, no, they don't wear helmets. From the gyms of middle America to the Olympic arena in Athens, Greece, "Murderball" tells the story of a group of world-class athletes unlike any ever shown on screen. In addition to smashing chairs, it will smash every stereotype you ever had about the disabled. It is a film about family, revenge, honor, sex (yes, they can) and the triumph of love over loss. But most of all, it is a film about standing up, even after your spirit - and your spine - has been crushed.

"Doogal" trailer

When the evil sorcerer Zeebad (Jon Stewart) escapes from his ancient prison, he vows to exact revenge by deep-freezing the earth forever. Determined to save the world, a fellowship of four unlikely heroes band together to foil Zeebad's villainous plot. Led by the candy-loving mutt Doogal (Kenan Thompson), friends Dylan (Jimmy Fallon), Brian (William H. Macy) and Ermintrude (Whoopi Goldberg) all embark on an epic adventure to save the world. In order to find the diamonds before Zeebad, they must climb icy mountains, navigate fiery pits of molten lava, sail across vast oceans and pass through a booby-trapped temple guarded by an army of ninja skeleton warriors. Along the way they learn that the most powerful weapon is their friendship ? which even Zeebad's evil magic cannot destroy.

"Howl's Moving Castle" trailer

"Ask the Dust" trailer

Academy Award winner Robert Towne ("Chinatown") writes and directs "Ask the Dust," set under the brutally sunny skies of Depression-era Los Angeles. Based on novelist John Fante's masterpiece, Towne's interpretation focuses on a city exotic and vulgar, glamorous and raunchy - a place of heat and dust. Full of imports - palm trees from Egypt and people from everywhere in search of health and wealth, fame and fortune - L.A. is the city of first and last resort, where all dreams are supposed to come true. So it is for Arturo Bandini (Colin Farrell), a son of Italian immigrants who dreams of becoming a famous novelist and marrying a beautiful blonde, and Camilla Lopez (Salma Hayek) a Mexican who longs to marry a WASP and shed her last name. In a time when Anglo-Chicano relations hang by tattered threads, Bandini and Camilla collide with one another, fighting the city and themselves to make their dreams come true.
