>> Volvo's C30 Coupe is arresting enough, just with its looks. But now it has an extension cord hanging out the front end. This is the Recharged Concept Car. It's a blended-series hybrid, sort of like the Chevy Volt. Meaning the combustion engine typically just generates electricity for the batteries to run the electric motors, regenerative breaking also helps to charge that lithium polymer battery pack, but the car can be put into a mode to drive on the gas engine for longer range, and it can also be plugged in. A full three-hour charge offers a range of around 60 miles, and just an hour on the teat [assumed spelling] will get you 30 miles. Once you are more than half out of electric, the lean burn engine starts to run the generator again, which gives you longer range at an equivalent of around 43 miles per gallon. And when combined with a full charge to start with, it averages up to over 120 miles per gal. As you can see, these hybrids are becoming a complicated math problem. Zero to sixty? Yes, takes about nine seconds. But that isn't why you would buy a car called the Recharge. ^M00:01:13 [ Music ]
