>> Jessica Dolcourt: At long last, Yahoo has created an official Flickr app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. I'm Jessica Dolcourt from cnetdownload.com. Let's see what Yahoo's got. The Flickr app opens with a montage of Flickr shots on its home screen. It's mesmerizing, but the real action happens in the search bar up top, from the photo upload button, and in the three screens represented below. When you first select the button, you'll be kicked over to the Yahoo login page on the Safari browser, where you'll need to log in once to authorize the Flickr app. After that, it's smooth sailing...mostly. The "you" screen is the neat of the app. Here, you'll view your photostream and thumbnail view or list view. You can also filter to see images by tags and sets, or quickly access your favorites of the photos uploaded by your friends or by strangers. You can comment, email a photo or navigate through the photostream with the arrows. After tapping again to get a picture to full screen, you can swipe to see the next picture, or turn the device to view photos in landscape mode. Version 1.0 of Flickr doesn't support landscape mode outside the photo viewer. Uploading photos from the iPhone is another big draw. Just click to take a new photo with the iPhone's built-in camera, or to select one from the library. You'll be able to add a title, tags, a description and privacy settings. If you have an iPhone 3GS, you can also record and upload video. There are a few other things you can do with this app too. Tapping "recent" gives you a window to your most recent activity and uploads. "Contacts" gets you to a buddy list, where you can see your friends, photo stream and favorites. You can also star a favorite from the app. Unfortunately, Flickr for iPhone was a little crashy for us, and that's even after a reboot. We couldn't zoom into photos in the photo viewer, couldn't delete or edit photos and couldn't centrally explore interesting public photos. The app also didn't succeed in picking up geotags as promised. That makes Flickr for iPhone 1.0 adequate for uploading photos and for view-only access to Flickr and Flickr Pro accounts. Power users, however, may want to stick to third-party apps like the three-dollar Mobile Photos. I'm Jessica Dolcourt. This has been Flickr for iPhone and iPod Touch version 1.0. ^M00:02:17 [ Music ]
