Welcome to CNET Top 5, where each time we meet we count down another hot CNET list. I'm Tom Merritt. Rumours are a-stirrin' about a new Amazon Kindle, the ugly ebook reader with the pretty EV-DO connection. We know that Amazon has probably already baked its design for the next version, but we do have a wish list of fixes we hope it made. Let's count down the Top 5 fixes for the next Amazon Kindle. At Number Five: the ugly. Come on Amazon. It's no hirsute monster of the sideshow, but you have to admit the Kindle is no looker, either. In this world of iPhones, Vaios and Vivienne Tam notebooks, looks matter. Sorry. Coming in at Number Four: put in a touch screen! We want to just swipe at the screen to turn a page or highlight some text. Sony does it. Yeah I went there. Fix it! Up to Number Three: color. Well, now we're just getting greedy. The contrast of the black and white screen is amazing. But our very own Nicole Lee has said she will buy your product to read graphic novels if you just add color. Do it for Nicole! Sliding in at Number Two: The DRM. Look around, Amazon. You yourself are leading thew way in DRM-free music. So cut out the crazy DRM on the books and support more file formats so we can easily get our Project Gutenberg files on your machine without having to e-mail them for conversion. Before we get to Number One,let's share the love. 'Cause there are things we love about the Kindle. Especially the free wireless Internet. All right. Let's get to our Number One. The number one thing we want Amazon to fix in the next version of the Kindle...is... The next page button. Look at this thing. It's right by my thumb. Where I hold the device while I read. Where almost everybody holds something when they read. I don't want to have to read while in constant fear that I'm going to accidentally skip to the next page and see "...but it was all a dream and Uncle Albert had really been dead for 30 years."
