-AVG Free is back on the antivirus attack with its 2012 suite. Hi, I'm Seth Rosenblatt for CNET and, in this first-look video, I'll show you what's new and what can be improved on AVG Free 2012. First off, the CNET AVG has done a bit of sprucing up around the shop. The UI is just a little bit easier to read. Visually, not much else has changed. You can activate a scan from the left nav and, if your system security has been compromised, you'll see a one-click fix button next to the red icon indicating that you're running in unsafe computer. The essential web safeguarding tool, LinkScanner, which will protect you from most phishing attacks, has been enhanced to handle more dynamic code. Short version. It will keep you safer than last year's. Other things that will keep you safer are the ability to detect and remove fake antivirus programs and run somewhere those obnoxious computer infections that hold your computer a hostage until you pay up. There's also the new AVG Advice, part of the system monitoring that runs silently. No way to force it to activate, right? Of course, AVG Free still has many of the features its known for. These include newer options like the Smart Scanning tech with a built-in system resource manager to prioritize scans, a desktop gadget for one-click scan and social networking access, and the PC analyzer for system analysis and one-time system-wide fixes in the free version. Well, there goes mine. Overall, if you've liked AVG in the past, you'll love this one and, if you've moved away from it, it's really worth taking out for a spin again. After all, it is free.
