Ep. 781: Where we have the pre-junket jitters Video
This week's episode is inspired by Natali's incredibly appropriate (if not unintended) comment from last week's episode. Really, if you haven't heard it, check it out. Then listen to today's show where we discuss a wide array of chairs on which to sit. That's right, chairs are the "it". Why, what were you thinking?
It feels pretty weird to say it, but we've come to Wilson's last episode as a co-host of The 404 Podcast. It's been an awesome journey with this guy, but we'll send him off with a proper farewell from listeners that have been with us from the beginning. "Uncle" Henry Tapchus joins us as the chat room liaison to help us screen voicemails and get through Adele's "Someone Like You" with our dignity intact.
On today's episode of The 404 Podcast, hosts Jeff Bakalar, Wilson G. Tang, and Justin Yu shop for manly duvet covers, discover older DOES mean wiser, and take a look at the trailer for the new Facebook movie entitled "The Social Network."
Robots are slowly taking over the world, and a startup in Illinois called Narrative Science is targeting journalists as the next profession to go extinct. Well, maybe just the journalists covering local youth sports and number-crunching quarterly earning reports. We're safe for now, but let us know if they come out with a robot that can podcast and tell dirty jokes. This and more stories, plus listener voicemails on today's episode of The 404 Podcast!
They said it would never happen, but the day has finally come for Justin to get some much-needed tail....as he dons a skunk costume and becomes Justin Le Pieu for today's very unspooky Halloween episode of The 404! Be sure to check out today's video for all the details. Since Jeff is out today and this coming Monday for who-knows-what, the guys ask everyone's favorite Kenley and Alli to help co-host the show.
It's Wilson's penultimate episode on The 404 Podcast, but his departure just wouldn't feel right unless we let him carry on today about the Apple OS 10.8 Mountain Lion announcement. We'll also reveal Apple's dirty little PR secret while we're on the topic, and of course play a few voicemails from listeners lamenting Wilson's desertion.
The guys imagine a Big Lebowski sequel starring Jesse Eisenberg and Ron Paul. And speaking of great films, allow us to honor Nora Ephron, one of the best screenwriters in the history of cinema. Those stories plus contest winners and listener voicemails on today's 404 episode!
TGIF!TGIF!TGIF!TGIF!TGIF! Before you take off for the weekend, be sure to check out today's episode of The 404 Webcast, where we're reintroducing the Semi-weekly Beck's Beer Audio Draft! Today's featured artist is Family of the Year, an up-and-rocking folk(ish) band from Los Angeles.
Today we're joined by Ilan Zechory and Tom Lehman from RapGenius.com, a site that offers historical context and trivia to lyrics from popular rappers like Odd Future, Jay-Z, and Kanye West. Right now they mostly analyze rap but there's also a few pop music deconstructions like Rebecca Black's "Friday" and "Born This Way" by Lady Gaga.
Well that happened. We're back in the studio after a week of wading through Hurricane Sandy and Jeff got hit the hardest. Check out today's episode for stories of what we saw, how we managed, and what you can do to help the relief effort.
