Ep. 711: Where, well, that just happened Video
Jeff didn't get the memo about daylight-saving time and misses today's episode of The 404 Podcast, but luckily our good buddy Mark Licea of The Green Show set his clock back and helps us out with today's Halloween recap, as well as a few stories from around the Internet.
Our buddy Peter Ha is back on the show to tell us what's new over at The Daily, Rupert Murdoch's iPad-only newspaper. Unfortunately, halfway through the show we find out that Macho Man Randy Savage passed away today, so RIP to one of our favorite WWF athlete. To get us back in good spirits for the rest of the episode, Jeff and Peter make a Twitter wager, and the loser has to...well, you'll have to listen to find out what's going to happen when Peter gets to 4,000.
Jeff's back with a full E3 report! Taking the good with the bad, Jeff runs through the ups and downs of the show and why he won't likely return to the City of Angels anytime soon. We'll also talk about Microsoft using the Kinect camera to target ads based on your emotions, the future species, and TV ratings coming to streaming sites like Hulu and CBS.com.
Jeff's back in the studio after his vacation week, and any positive vibes floating around in the air are obliterated when he tells us about the things you can learn about people just from spending time at the beach.
It's our first day back from CES so we'll give you quick recap of last week's shows, but you should really go back and hear them yourself! We'll also give you a backstage pass today for some of the events that happened when the microphones turned off, and tell you why the CES acronym should be changed to the Chinese Exports Show.
The 404 is complete once again, forming flying Vs and throwing knuckle pucks that would make Gordon Bombay proud. The first story to mention is the return of The Red Kid (not that one, Jeff), but this time to Twitter! It's about time, Conan, but you know you're a little late to the Twitter game when you get beaten by His Holiness the Dalai Lama himself. It's good to have Conan back, and he might even be coming to a city near you!
The subject of Jeff's bad cell phone luck has come up several times on The 404 Podcast already, but we're coming back to it once again because he just received his NINTH Palm Pre from the good folks at Sprint, who are now offering a "trade 9, get one free frozen yogurt" stamp card in his honor.
Jeff Bakalar's father, Sweet Lou, visits us while Jeff burns in Hawaii.
It's the first show of the year, and Ariel has a big announcement to make from his trip to Amsterdam! Jeff also did some traveling and tells us what 50 Euro will buy you abroad. Finally, Justin went to Costco and Target.
Bridget's back on the show to tell us why Florida just banned all computers in an effort to curb senior citizens from playing Bingo. We'll also cycle through the rest of the rundown that includes rowdy Google interns, hacking the Emergency Alert System, and the Tumblr community do-good of the week.
