>> Hi. I'm John Falcone, senior editor at CNET.com and this is the Energy RC-Micro 5.1. The bigger the speaker, the better the sound is a rule of thumb that you're likely to hear from many audio files. Thankfully, every rule has an exception. In this case, it's this Energy surround sound speaker package. The RC-Micro 5.1 has some of through smallest speakers we've ever seen, just 4.7 inches high. The speakers are two-way designs with a half-inch aluminum dome tweeter, and a 2.5-inch aluminum mid-base driver. The five satellites weigh under two pounds each. The 240-watt subwoofer provides the systems base. It sports an eight inch front firing woofer that uses a rib design that Energy claims lowers distortion and allows the subwoofer to play louder than more conventional designs. The entire RC-Micro 5.1 system is finished in piano black, and each component has removable black, cloth grills. Satellites and center channel speaker can be wall mounted with their keyhole slots as well. Our only real complaints with the system were few and far between. We would have liked to see five way binding posts rather than the spring-loaded connectors, and the system will stain if it's cranked up too loud. Otherwise, it's a dream. The sonic blending between the satellites and the subwoofer is seamless, and the RC-Micro exhibited excellent sound quality overall on both movies and music. Overall, we found it to be one of the best sounding mini package speaker systems we've heard to date. I'm John Falcone for CNET, and this is the Energy RC-Micro 5.1. ^M00:01:39 [ Music ]

Energy RC-Micro 5.1 Review

The good: Beautifully finished, piano black 5.1 channel home theater speaker package with five incredibly tiny, two-way satellites matched with an outstanding 8-inch, 240-watt powered subwoofer; excellent sound quality, especially considering the small size.

The bad: The speakers' spring connectors accept only the skinniest bare-wire ends or pins; may strain at very high volumes.

The bottom line: The Energy Speakers RC-Micro 5.1 speaker system delivers superb sound quality from incredibly tiny speakers.
