>> Hello, this is [inaudible] at CNET.com I have a NAS Server to show you today. It's not just any NAS Server. It's an editor's choice NAS Server. This is a DS409slim from Synology. It's the first NAS Server that's based on 2.5 gigs hard drive and offers the hot swapping capability. This [inaudible] that it's small. The DS409slim can house four hard drives in a variety of great configuration. On the front there's an array of L and D light that indicates the condition of the four hard drives, the narrow connection and the device general starters. There's also and USB port. A look on the side here, you can see the power switch and the copy button. This is a handy feature. You insert a thumb drive in here and press the button. The entire content of the thumb drive would then be copied into the NAS Server's storage. On the back you will find another USB port, a [inaudible] port, a [inaudible] Ethernet port, and of course four drive base. These base are easily accessible but not too easy. You cannot just pull any of these drive tray out by accident; very good design actually. The hard drive can be attached and detached to the tray fairly quickly with a screwdriver. Just undo these four screws and the drive is free. You can use 2.5 inch [inaudible] to set the hard drive of any capacity with the DS409slim. If you want to use the right configuration however they need to be of the same capacity. The only problem with the DS409slim is the fact that 2.5 inch hard drives are generally more expensive and offer less forward space than the 3.5 inch desktop hard drives. Well now, with all of these hard drives you can get about two [inaudible] at the top. This is why the DS409slim is not in the [inaudible] solution. The NAS Server itself costs about 400 dollars and you would have to pay for the hard drives too. To make up for this the device fits nicely in any office space, even a tiny one and offers excellent combination of performance, features and expandability. One of the unique features is the fact that it can manage up to 8 IP camera to make a complete surveillance system for your home or your office. Unfortunately, only one camera is supported out of the box and you would have to pay more for additional camera licenses. Like other NAS Servers from Synology, the DS409slim also comes with a very [inaudible] and easy to use [inaudible]. For more information on how it performs and see if it's worth the investment check out the full review at CNET.com. Once again, this is [inaudible] and this has been the first look at the editor's choice DS409slim NAS Server from Synology. Thank you for watching. ^M00:02:47 [ Music ]
