>> Hi, I'm David Carnoy, Executive Editor for CNET.com and I'm here to give you a little video tour of the Edifier MP300 mulitmedia speakers. What's interesting about these speakers is that they're actually designed to be used with laptops. It comes with these two tiny ball-shaped speakers that are really pretty cool looking and then in the middle here is a subwoofer -- yes this a tubular subwoofer and it's designed to fit behind your laptop. What's kind of remarkable about these speakers is that when you sit close to your computer they sound a lot better than when you step just a few feet back. That's because you can only really hear the subwoofer well when you're close to it and then this little satellite speakers provide an ample amount of sound, but again this is really a close range system, but it is a really good value for the money. The system is a little bit hard to find in the US. Edifier is a Canadian company, but you can find the system for at less than a hundred dollars and maybe in some cases even for less than fifty dollars. These speakers do require a power connection and they are not USB powered, the subwoofer is a 15-watts subwoofers, so it require some power. Along the back is a special connection for the 2-speakers and then there's a line input for either an MP3 player you could attach an iPod to this or just the line input for your PC. In terms of controls there are really isn't much to the system. On top of that one of the speakers there's just two little chrome buttons that allow you to adjust the volume and that really is it. Over all we really like this little system, it is designed for laptops and it is designed for at closed range listening but if that's what you're looking for this is certainly a good value for the money. I'm David Carnoy and that's the Edifier MP300 Plus. ^M00:01:48 [ Music ]

Edifier MP300 Plus Review

Editors' rating

The good: The Edifier MP300 Plus offers a compact, modern design, with small, ball-shaped satellite speakers that attach to a 15-watt tubular subwoofer. The sound is surprisingly good at close range.

The bad: Step back just a few feet from the speakers and the sound degrades considerably; an included carrying case would have been nice.

The bottom line: The Edifier MP300 Plus is a well-designed, affordable, micro PC speaker system for laptops, but it only sounds good at close range.
