>> Hi, I'm Kevin Massey from CNET Cartech and today we are taking a first look on the eclipse AVN 5510. Now this is the next generation of in dash, multimedia, and GPS navigation devices from eclipse. The major feature of this unit is its GPS navigation ability. We program destinations by pressing the destination button, we are faced with a series of options of answering our destination. Some of the advanced navigation features of the 5510 are its ability to show individual, distinct building outlines for built up metropolitan areas. And it's turn by turn text to voice speech functionality, which reads out the names off the streets before you arrive. One thing that the AVN 5510 doesn't do is provide real-time traffic information, you can get that but you have to upgrade to the AVN 6610 as you can see from this source menu, we've got a number of sources available to us in terms of media playback. To play a desk we press the open button, the faceplate rolls down and you are presented with two disc slots, the bottom slot this for the GPS navigation DVD-ROM, if you take that out you can play DVD video or you can use this slot at the top to play audio discs. I've just put an MP3 disc in and with the disc and we get a list of all of the tracks on the desk, we do like the structure of the menus on the system compared to a lot of competition. Eclipse AVN5510 Review
The good: The Eclipse AVN5510 combines a great navigation system with a user-friendly digital audio interface and crisp video playback.
The bad: The system offers no support for XM Satellite Radio or DVD Audio, and its touch screen video playback programming is a bit goofy.
The bottom line: The Eclipse AVN5510 is a good all-in-one in-car product. Its broad range of audio and video customization features and its superb navigation interface make a very attractive proposition for those who can live without real-time traffic.
