Dual XNAV43HD Video Transcript

>> Tom Merritt: Hey I'm Tom Merritt from CNET.com here at CES 2009 taking a look at the Dual XNAV43HD. This is one of those model numbers that when you break it down actually makes sense. "Nav" stands for navigation. It's a good fully functional portable navigation unit. And then the HD is for HD radio which actually gets you not only HD radio, but some traffic data as well. I'm going to tell you about that in a second. Let's take a tour though. I mean it has a lot of things we've come to expect in portable HD. You've got your radio which in this case is HD radio. Plays movies, plays music, MP3s and WMAs: not AACs. Has a picture of your calendar, calculator, but really -- where it really gets fun is in the navigation. One of the things you get with HD radio is the ability to put a lot more data into the device so they're taking advantage of Clear Channel's Traffic System which I believe is provided by Inrix so that you get live traffic information while you're driving. And one of the things it can do - and this is where the settings come in to be key - is you can put in and say "Hey if the bridge traffic is bad, give me an alternate route. Take me this way." And it will suggest those as you drive. Now obviously you're not going to be wanting put a lot of key strokes while you're driving, so that's why you want to go into the settings and do that ahead of time. It has 4 gigabytes of storage inside. It comes with an SD card slot so you can expand that a little bit. And you can put in a headphone jack, attach it by USB to keep it updated, put your music on that way as well. They expect it to be available in June for 279 dollars and 99 cents. I'm going to call it 280. It's the Dual XNAV43HD at CES 2009. I'm Tom Merritt.
