How far would you go to live your dream? When Santiago Munez (Kuno Becker) is given the chance of a lifetime, he must leave his family, his life in Los Angeles and everything that he knows to travel halfway around the globe to England and into a completely foreign world ? the exciting, fast-paced and glamorous world of international soccer. As an underprivileged Mexican-American immigrant growing up in the poor section of Los Angeles, Santiago seemed destined to follow his father's path in life: laboring at menial jobs to earn just enough money to support his family. Black Lung Sam was shot by Skinless productions for the 2005 Cinemerge 48hour film Challenge. Everything in the movie was done in a 48 hour time period. We were given the genre of western when we arrived at the competition. It was very challenging to complete a film in 48 hours and we suggest to any filmmakers out there that they give it a shot. We turned it in and the next week at the awards cerimonies we won 1st place. Enjoy.
"Dr. Jobs and his Scary Laboratory": Part 1
For more than twenty-five years, I have been a successful composer of music to accompany animation. I have worked on the cartoon, "Urusei Yatsura", and the movies, "Tampopo" and Gerry Anderson's "FireStorm". These works hardly pursue a whole synchronization of music and pictures, so inevitably, I feel frustrated with the unbalanced two elements. In recent years, my challenge has been to seek its solution with Brick Toys animation. The music composition has been another project. The amount of genuine animation for children seems to be decreasing, compared to the number aiming for OTAKU (freaks) in Japan. With this Dr. Jobs' series, I am aiming for five to ten-year old children. In each story, I'd like to create a comedy with this brick character, where you will find his brilliant inventions may lead to a bitter experience. Enjoy it!
THE ADORED combine elements of discopunk, new wave, and pure power pop to create an intelligent yet catchy, different yet danceable sound. Inspired by the likes of The Clash, The Jam, and Blur, scenepointblank.com calls them Garagey, catchy, and as much as I hate the word, sassy. The Adored were born when four best friends and bon vivants joined up to make spiky party music. What came out draws from the more angular elements of early punk & postpunk and the less pompous elements of fin-de-siecle Britpop. Ryan (vocals) and Nat (drums) met in the mid-90s in NorCal and both played with a locally legendary punk band before moving southward. Max (bass) and Drew (guitar) met as students in Boston, studying media, all the while dreaming of a Los Angeles pop life. The four finally came together in LA and never looked back. So far, their adventures as Hollywood golden boys have included shows with eclectic artists new and old like Supergrass, The Zombies, Ima Robot, Bow Wow Wow, The Futureheads and Les Sav Fav. The Adored have also performed at parties hosted by members of buzz bands Mount Sims, Interpol and the Moving Units. The band has also appeared in clips on the UK?s Channel Four and Southern California?s Fox 11 ---as the current LA ?it band?! With mentions in the NME, the California press, and a grassroots network of blogs and webzines have all helped build an international fan base for the Adored. Again and again, they have performed in San Francisco, Las Vegas and Californias beach counties, bringing their music to grateful, music starved suburban scenesters and leaving their mark on the West Coast. The boys finished a successful 4-night mini-tour to New York City this spring and a weekly residency at Sunset Strips KEY CLUB. Following a 4-song demo in 2003, the Adored recorded a 5-song EP for V2 Records in fall 2004, with producer Dave Trumfio and a special guest vocalist friend and mutual fan Pete Shelley [Buzzcocks]. Due in stores January 2005. These 2004 LA WEEKLY MUSIC AWARDS BEST DANCE ARTIST nominees deceptively simple lineup of guitars, drums and three vocals help the four lovely lads produce a rhythm unique to the California scene -- the first stage in their plan to induce global simultaneous Adorgasm.
The fun dispensable candy known as Pez is undoubtedly one of the geekiest wonders of the world. We got super excited when we learned that the world's only Pez museum was a mere half-hour drive down the road. Justine Ezarik, aka iJustine, was in town, and it turns out she's a huge Pez dispenser collector. Only Steve Jobs or a new Apple product launch could keep her away. iJustine and Irina pay a visit, take a tour, and get the history of Pez from Gary Doss, curator of the Burlingame Pez Museum of Memorabilia.
