Toots and the Maytals (featuring Shaggy): "Bam Bam"
Toots is one of the true architects of reggae - so much so that "Do the Reggay," a 1968 single by Toots and his group, the Maytals, is credited with giving the genre its name. Classic songs written and recorded by Toots and the Maytals have been covered by the likes of the Clash and the Specials, and the group was featured in reggae's greatest breakthrough event - "The Harder They Come," the 1972 film that became an international sensation. The all-star guests on TRUE LOVE range from legends like Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, and Bonnie Raitt to younger stars including No Doubt, the Roots, and Phish's Trey Anastasio. This video of The Pacifics was created by Xylophone Films. The PACIFICS are People Accumulating Creative Ideas Foregoing Ignorant Conclusions of Society. The mighty trio of KP, Strike3 (aka. Mr. REXford) and Norman Rockwell create uncut "go ill" hip hop designed to serve the soul and snap the neck. Striving to bridge the gap between the old and new generations of hip hop, the Pacifics bring versatility to the forefront without sacrificing creativity in their music. A slew of hometown and coast-to-coast performances have earned them a reputation as showstoppers. While all three bring the rhymes, KP also shines on much of the production, Norm showcases his other passion on the cuts and Strike3 holds it down as the host of SubT's 606/Open Mic Nite on Tuesdays. "It's hip-hop with a cleverness that overwhelms its ruggedness. It's like early Tribe Called Quest or De La Soul. It may be Chicago's answer to Jurassic 5." (Sun Times, Feb. '03) The PACIFICS earned and have maintained their place in Chicago hip hop through their consistently high-energy stage shows. Throughout the years, they've not only performed alongside some of Chicago's best acts, but nationally, they've also opened up for artists like DJ QBert, Mountain Brothers, Fifth Platoon, World Famous Beat Junkies, Triple Threat DJs, Bahamadia, Slum Village and most memorably, KRS-One. In 2000, The PACIFICS took their show on the road with the highly acclaimed spoken word group, I Was Born With Two Tongues, on the YellowTechnicolor Tour (which continued through 2002), performing their 1 and 1/2 hour collaborative show at schools like Stanford, Columbia, UFlorida, Rutgers, SF State, Ball State, Pomona, UofC, Duke, UMichigan & UPittsburgh. The YellowTech show wound its way around the country, leaving scorched stages from the Bay to NY - rooted in the language and rhythm of spoken word and hip hop. The PACIFICS independently released their highly-anticipated debut album, "The September First Project: Long Overdue", in April 2002. The album, said to "offer a well-crafted manifestation of hip-hop optimism," (URB, 8/02) showcased production by KP, Bay Root Production & Chops (while also offering vocal contributions by Chops & Peril-L of the Mountain Brothers). With the help of Xylophone Films/KidHeroes Production, The PACIFICS were able to take their classic joint, "Especialty", from audio to visual, in their first ever music video. In the summer of 2002, they hit the road once again, on the Urban Architecture 606 Tour, with other Chicago-based hip hop acts: The Primeridian, Typical Cats and DJ Presyce. With followings new and old, stage shows to match and undeniable buzz, this tour's purpose was to bridge the gaps, share the shine and take it all back to homebase - by making stops in LA, Montana, Seattle, Portland and San Jose. KP, Strike3 & Norm have just completed their second album, "Sunday's Chicken" - due to release in March 2005 on All Natural, Inc. The contributions to the album span nationwide with support from Illmind, DJ Rhettmatic, Rakaa Iriscience, Pep Love and fellow chicagoans like The Primeridian, Iomos Marad, Ang 13 and Denizen Kane, as well as Artek of 606 Entertainment on production and behind the boards. The partnership between The PACIFICS and All Natural, Inc. marks a milestone in the group's journey, being the perfect step in taking themselves and their music to the next level.
Super Furry Animals: "The Gift That Keeps On Giving"
On the way to diversifying their sound, Super Furry Animals have found a new focus. After calling off the search for meaning, they stumbled upon it by intuition and the power of magic. Of course, when a band has played together for 10 years there is bound to be an unspoken shared aesthetic, and this time around they've communed over decadence. As you'll see, Love Kraft is the sound of SFA maturation, with not a monsteriffic yeti, tank, or inflatable bear in sight.

Workforce rips the stage at the Monkey Bar, with Hawl Digg blessing the Mic and Dirt E. Dutch behind the wheels. This is a must see! Workforce is a HipHop group that consists of a producer (Dirt E.Dutch) and an Emcee (Hawl Digg). They started making music togther a few years ago. They've been working in the lab and creating a buzz ever since. They've rocked at the Lyricist Lounge and Opened up for De La Soul. They are contributing to the Connecticut HipHop scene and are ready to explode, so be on the lookout!

Rooted in the creative atmosphere of the Bay Area, Hieroglyphics has emerged as a powerful force within underground hip-hop culture. Comprised of Del the FunkyHomosapien, Casual, Pep Love, Domino, and the group Souls of Mischief, this crew is one of the first to successfully forge careers as a collective and as individual artists. Sales for the crew have sailed well beyond 3 million units-- and that?s not even including their various tapes and underground records released in the early days. If you felt the Hieroglyphics camp for the first time when Del emerged on the scene in '91 with the classic, I Wish My Brother George Was Here (Elektra) you had to know that great things were ahead. And on and on, good things came from Hiero, including: Del?s 1993 release, No Need for Alarm (Elektra), Souls? debut in 1993, 93 til Infinity (Jive), Casual's 1994 release Fear Itself (Jive), and Souls? follow up in 1995, No Man?s Land (Jive). In 1997, armed with experience and insight, Hieroglyphics formed their own independent company, Hiero Imperium, and soon released their first album as a collective unit, Third Eye Vision, followed by releases by each of the individual artists on the label. Hiero also built a strong online presence through their award-winning website ? hieroglyphics.com (9 years and running!) and a merchandise line prominently featuring their famous three-eyed logo. The success of the Hieroglyphics Imperium label has enabled them to branch out beyond their own work to expand their musical legacy. In 2002 Hiero released one of Hip-Hop?s first CD/DVD hybrids, One Big Trip, which included a soundtrack on one side of the disc and a movie on the other. Artists within the collective also have collaborated with the likes of Dilated Peoples, Q-Tip, Xzibit, George Clinton, Jurassic 5, and Dan the Automator (Deltron 3030). The most notable of these collaborations was Del the Funky Homosapien?s lead vocal performance on "Clint Eastwood", the smash single off of the multi-platinum selling album from the Gorillaz. 2003 brought about the highest grossing fiscal year ever, along with the formation of a brand-new distribution wing of Hiero Imperium, which showcases the next wave of innovative independent artists. Releases included projects with soul singer Goapele, and hip-hop artists Z-Man and Encore. In 2004, the expansion continued. The Hiero crew has followed up Third Eye Vision with a new release entitled Full Circle , as well as a solo album from Tajai (Souls of Mischief)-Power Movement, and V/A The Building, a budget compilation of things to come. 2005 will bring about forthcoming albums from: Opio (Triangulation Station) Casual (Smash Rockwell), Pep Love (Reconstruction) and Del (Eleventh Hour).
