>> Hi everyone, I'm Jeff Bakalar [phonetic], assistant editor here at www.cnet.com.

>> Today we're going to be looking at the Denon S-52. The S52 is a fully featured tabletop radio that combines AM, FM and HD radio support with an iPod dock, USB port, XM satellite radio compatibility. And it's also a network indoor Internet radio playback device. This also includes rhapsody, which you can browse through your account and listen to all the music you want. In addition it's got a CD player and two alarms that you can configure independently. It's got an impressive amount of features fit into a small package, however it does weigh about fifteen pounds, which is pretty heavy. Unfortunately, for sound though, the quality is definitely sub par. The expensive asking price that Denon's asking here, we would have liked to have seen some better sound quality. Overall iPod playback is pretty good. You can actually use the included remote control to configure and navigate through your iPod. Unfortunately, there is no video out support for iPods that can play video. Overall, we found the S52 to be very easy to use, the one [inaudible] being text [assumed spelling] input. Whenever you're using text input for network configurations or for your rhapsody account, the only way to put in letters is by scrolling through the entire alphabets. And it gets pretty annoying after a while. Like we said, it's got a great set of features, but its expensive price tag may have you looking elsewhere.

The Polk Audio miDock Studio sounds good enough, but it lacks many of the extra features found on similarly priced, competing iPod speaker systems.

Voodoo Omen

The pricey, eye-catching Voodoo Omen is chock-full of top-shelf components, including two SLI graphics cards, but it falls short due to a configuration mismatch.

Denon S-52 Review

The good: Fully featured tabletop radio with AM/FM/HD radio, iPod dock, USB port, XM satellite radio compatibility, network/Internet audio playback (including Rhapsody), and CD player; clock with dual alarms.

The bad: Extraordinarily expensive; mediocre sound quality; tedious character input; no iPod video output.

The bottom line: While the Denon S-52 is chock-full of impressive features, its subpar sound quality makes it hard to justify the steep asking price.
