>> Dan Ackerman here from CES 2009 with the Dell Studio XPS 1640. Now Dell used to have its Studio line. It also had its XPS -- I know it's kind of combined them into a hybrid, that's kind of high tech and high style. It also shows us that Dell is not afraid of new from factor. This is a 16-inch laptop, with a 16 by 9 aspect ratio. It's also got that cool edge-to-edge glass over the display. You can get an optional 1920 by 1080 display on this which is of course the perfect resolution for Blu-ray or other HD video content. Now of course being a Dell, there are literally a ton of configuration options, but we're a big fan of the backlit keyboard, as well this slot loading DVD player. And of course last, but not least, it has got a tiny little leather trim here on the back. There's nothing says class like leather. I'm Dan Ackerman at CES 2009 with the Dell Studio XPS 1640. ^M00:00:56 [ Music ]

Dell Studio XPS 16 (320GB HDD, 4GB) Review
The good: Dell embraces the 16:9 aspect ratio display; upscale design with leather trim; backlit keyboard and edge-to-edge screen glass.
The bad: The 1080p display costs extra; unimpressive battery life; new Studio XPS brand may get lost between the Inspiron, Studio, and XPS lines.
The bottom line: Dell's new 16:9 Studio XPS 16 adds upscale extras such as a leather trim and a backlit keyboard to a fairly standard set of components, without jacking up the price (too much).
