>> Hey, guys. This is Eric Franklin from Cnet.com. And today we're looking at the Dell S2409W. I'll be comparing this display to the Dell 2408WFP. Right of the bat I want to say that the cost of this display is very low. It's 300 bucks. Now, because it's 300 bucks, Dell had to make some sacrifices over the 2408, which cost 700 bucks, in order to get the price that low. The first place they made sacrifices was in ergonomic options. While the 2408 has a plethora of ergonomic options from screen height adjustment, pivoting, screen rotation, the Dell 2409 has none of these. It does tilt back about 30 degrees and tilts forward about five degrees, but that's about all your getting as far as ergonomic options go. Second, connection options. Dell kind of skimped on the connection options. While the 2408 has display port, has two DVI ports, has components and S-video, the 2409 is kind of barebones when it comes to a 24-inch display. It has DVI, VGA and HGMI and that's it. Also concerning the connection options, the HGMI and VGA ports are in a good spot as far as accessibility is concerned. However, the DVI is in a little bit too close to the display's neck, and it makes it a little bit hard to get to it. Also, the foot stand. Now, the foot stand is oval shaped, kind of wide, but not a very good foot stand. The display wobbles a lot when pushed just a little bit. We tested the display in games and movies and we found that it had very good performance, especially in movies. The display has a very deep black level which is very important for movie performance. The onscreen display is actually a place where the Dell 2409 beat the 2408. The onscreen display is elegant, robust and simple to use. It has options for brightness, contrast and color. It also has about nine pre-set options. The pre-set options aren't really that useful. They're not any better than the standard pre-set. But it's nice to have those options anyway. So if you are in the market for a 24-inch display and price is a concern for you, the Dell S2409W is a sound buy at $300. Once again, this is Eric Franklin. This has been your first look at the Dell S2409W.

Dell S2409W Review
The good: Low price; great performance in games and movies at optimal viewing angle; intuitive and elegant OSD; lots of OSD preset modes.
The bad: Bad lower viewing angle; lack of ergonomic support; includes only a VGA cable; unstable footstand.
The bottom line: The Dell S2409W is a 24-incher that sacrifices features for price, but makes up for it in performance and ease of use.
