>> Hi, I'm Rich Brown, Senior Editor for CNET.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the Dell Inspiron 530s. So, this is a fixed configuration model of the system that will only show up on store shelves and we're not really that thrilled about it. As you can see it is a slim tower PC, but it's a little bit bigger than some of your average systems in that category and so it makes it a little bit clunky. You could put this in the living room, but you might not want to just because it's so kind of tall and takes up maybe a little more space than it needs to. On the front panel you can see it's actually pretty spare. There's a DVD drive hidden behind that door and here there's actually space for a media card reader but there isn't one of this model. So, it's kind of drawback it. So, come over the back of the system and you can see again there's really not a whole lot going on. The only video output is standard VGA, so there's no DVI, no HDMI, so it really kind of limits your options for the tab displays as you connect the system to and the only peripheral input is USB. There's no digital audio, there's no FireWire, no eSATA. It's really, you know a pretty spare configuration. Now, inside the case it's really not that remarkable. You have this cross piece here that kind of gets in the way. We can take that right off though. Removing that you can see there's a basic expansion. You have PCI express which is great for high-fi graphics they can improve the performance a little bit if you want. You got four memory sticks -- that's great you know you have the slots to upgrade if you want to, but that also mean do you have to throw the current ones away. There's 4-gigs in the system that should be enough to handle most common tasks. The hard drive bay is a little bit irritating though 'cause as you can see there's room for another one, but it's a way behind this one in front. So, you better take this one out and put the new one and it's kind of cumbersome. Overall we're not in love with this system. It's budget priced. I mean you don't have to spend a lot for it, but at the same time you can get better features for a similar price from other vendors. Dell Inspiron 531Dell's new Inspiron 531 features a new, streamlined look and a solid set of mainstream features including built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. On some tests, it's even faster than systems that cost $500 more.
The Dell Inspiron 531, the company's newest, small-scale Windows desktop, may not offer the most bang for the buck, but it does offer more options than the competition.
PC vendors have very few tricks remaining to differentiate their systems from the competition, which makes the built-in Bluetooth in the Dell Inspiron 530 unique. There's little else that makes this system stand out, but if you need Bluetooth in your budget desktop, we can recommend no other.

In its present configuration, the Dell Inspiron I530S-119B won't feel at home in a home theater or digital media environment, but it succeeds in providing high performance at minimal cost thanks to a faster processor than the competition.
The Dell Studio XPS 435 successfully overcomes our bias against desktops that claim to be experts at everything through charming case design and a strong configuration at a relatively fair price. It misses greatness because of a handful of minor missteps, but if you need a do-it-all mainstream tower system, this Dell more or less covers all the bases.
