>> I'm Dan Ackerman, senior editor at CNET.com and we are here today to look at the Dell Inspiron E1705. Now this is Dells middle of the road entry in the seventeen-inch desktop replacement category. If you're a hardcore gamer you're probably going to want something from Dells XPS line like the M1710 or an alien ware or something like that, but if you just want to do occasional gaming and watching some movies on a big screen like this then the 1705 is a good choice. We got a nice full size keyboard, but we don't have a separate number pad, something we see on a lot of desk top replacements, kind of disappointed that it's not here, but the touch pad is nice and large, nice generous touchpad. Horizontal and vertical scroll wheels, not a huge fan of these big clunky mouse buttons but you do have media control buttons along the front along with these speaker grills so you can close the laptop and still listen to music and actually control it while the lid is shut. And if we flip it around to the back you'll see that we have a wide variety of output options, you've got a VGA output, you got S video output and you've got a DVI output, great for outputting to your big screen LCD monitor or your plasma TV and this is something you are only going to find on the 1705, not Dells smaller E1505. Like the other systems in Dell Inspiron line this guy has a silver and white design, it's kind of mauve, I like it, it's not the flashiest thing out there, but it will fit in, in your den or dorm room. And of course being it Dell, you can configure it a lot of different ways. If you like the design and the look you can go with low-end components or you can pack it out and actually get a really decent gaming machine. I'm Dan Ackerman and that's the Dell Inspiron E1705. ^M00:01:41 [ Music ]
