>> Hi, I'm Dan Ackerman, Senior Editor at CNET.com and we are here taking a look at the Dell Inspiron E1505. This is Dell's current entry in the 15 inch, mainstream, middle of the road laptop category. It is so middle of the road, my mother in law just bought one. I'm not kidding and that's not necessarily a bad thing because, you can take this machine and you can outfit it with all kind of different components. You can go from under 1000 dollars to all the way up to almost 2000 dollars and you can actually put together a really decent, good performing system that's not gonna cost you an arm and a leg and is gonna do pretty much anything you need it to do. We really like the nice, big, full size keyboard here on the 1505 and the touch pad is nice and large. We're getting a little tired of little, tiny touch pads on laptops. You need a lot of room to move your fingers around. You've got the horizontal and vertical scroll bars on the side, we always appreciate that. These gigantic mouse buttons however are a little clunky and hard to click on. We have media control buttons across the front panel right here. You can hit play, stop, fast forward, rewind, control the volume and the speaker panels are also right here in the front. So when you close the lid, the music can still come out if you wanna play a cd or some MP3's in the background. Take a look at the back, we've got VGA and S Video outputs for hooking up to an external monitor. If you want a DVI output, you're gonna have to trade up to the E1705, which is this guy's 17 inch big brother. With it's silver and white design, the E1505 has a nice modern look. It's not the flashiest system we've seen, but you won't be embarrassed to go down to the local coffee shop and hang out with it. When it comes to mainstream, middle of the road, 15 inch laptops, this is the guy to beat right now. I'm Dan Ackerman and that's the Dell Inspiron E1505. ^M00:01:43 [ Music ]
