>> I'm John Falcone, senior editor at cnet.com, and this is the definitive technology Pro Cinema 800. It's a 5.1 surround sound speaker system, and it's actually, not surprisingly, a bit of an improvement over the Pro Cinema 600 that we reviewed recently. Part of the reason why is that the 800 is a little bit larger all around. The main speakers have four and a half inch mid-range drivers, and they also have this passive radiator at the top that actually helps their base performance a little bit. That of course is in addition to the eight inch sub-woofer that comes with the system. There's a couple nice things about the sub-woofer too. It didn't need the special hookup that we needed to get the best sound out of the 600, it was just the standard one cable to the LFE input on the back panel. The other nice thing about the sub-woofer is that it does have this volume control right on the side that's really easy to reach, and you can just crack the volume up and down. That's really nice if you're listening late at night for instance. As far as audio quality was concerned, we found a lot to like about this system. The overall blend between the satellites, the center channel, and the sub-woofer was seamless, and the clarity of the sound was excellent as well. Another thing we liked was that it performed just as well on music as it did with movies. That's not a common thing in surround sound speaker systems. I'm John Falcone for CNET, and this is the Definitive Technology Pro Cinema 800.
