>> Hi everyone. This is Dong Ngo for CNET.com and today, we'll check our new way to do off-site backup. On one hand, the device works the same as any other network-attached storage devices in the sense that it provides storage space for a network. It can be hooked to a local network via ethernet port on the back here. On the other hand, however, unlike any other NAS devices, the Datto has a very interesting and important additional function. It automatically syncs its entire content to a remote server in real time via the internet. This means wherever you put on the Datto NAS device, is also stored on a remote location. In case of data loss, Datto, the company, will recover it from the remote location and get it back to you within 24 hours. This seems to be a great alternative to traditional off-site backup and it works. However, it only works well if you have a very high-speed internet connection. If you just have a regular DSL connection, it can take a very long time to upload gigabytes of data. Of course, this also depends on the amount of changes you make to the data stored on the Datto, which determines how much data needs to be synced with the server. The Datto comes in 2 version, 100 gigabyte and 500 gigabyte and you can buy these for 400 and 600 dollars, respectively. You will have to also pay an annual fee of 99 dollars for the 100-gigabyte version and 240 dollars for the 500-gigabyte version.
