>> Hello. This is Dong Ngo [phonetic] for CNET.com and today we'll take a look at the D-Link DNS-323 Network Storage Enclosure. This is a simple 2-bay NAS device and it doesn't come with a hard drive. So you would have to buy and insert the hard drive yourself and it's actually very easy to do that. As a matter of fact, it's a little bit too easy. As you can see here, you can easily accidentally open the bay just by lifting the device up. On the front, on the cover you'll see 3 small LED here which indicates the presence of the hard drive inside and also do networking activities of the device. The device can take two 3.5-inch SAT hard drive of any sizes. It's worth to mention that you would want to use drives of regular thickness. Thinner drive this one may not fit in if you put it in and it is very loose inside. There's a release latch for each drive at the back of the device. Also on the back here, you can find the gigabit ethernet port, a U-shaped port that can be used to host a printer or add more extra storage. The hard drives of the DNS-323 can be set up to work independently or come by in RAID format. It supports both RAID 0 and 1. For more information on how it performs, please read our in-depth review on CNET web site. Once again, my name is Dong Ngo and this has been the first look at the D-Link DNS-323.

D-Link DNS-323 2-Bay Network Storage Enclosure Review
The good: Compact design; very easy to set up; intuitive Web interface; fast write speed; print-serving capability; two drive bays with RAID support; can operate as a UPnP AV, iTunes, and FTP server; can also act as DHCP server; USB port for sharing a printer.
The bad: Drive bays' cover comes off too easily; doesn't support hard drives in FAT32 or NTFS format; drive bays only hold drives of regular thickness.
The bottom line: The D-Link DNS-323 2-Bay Network Storage Enclosure is a comprehensive solution to extend your network storage and functionality. It offers great performance and, despite its long list of features, remains very easy to use.
