D-Link DIR-605L Cloud Router Video Transcript

Speaker: Hi, guys. It's Dong Ngo here. And I'm back from Guatemala, where else, the Cloud and I did bring something quite with me. This is the very first Cloud Router from D-Link, the DIR-605L. Now, this is a very special router for 2 reasons. Number one, it's both compact and bulky at the same time. It's compact because the router itself is quite small. It fits around hand right here which is medium size. Is bulky because of these 2 antennas sticking on the back here. They are nondetachable and they are huge. Now the 2nd reason is because it's both low end and high end at the same time. Now, it's low end because this is a regular single-band wireless router with almost no bells and whistles. On the back here, you're gonna find all of the ports including 4 LAN ports and 1 WAN port and all of them are regular Ethernet. Not really fast. On the front here, you can find the traditional array of LED light that show the status of the port on the back. Also the connection to the internet and the wireless connection. On the side here, you can find the WPS button that helps quickly hook up client to the network. Now, it's high end because it's a first from D-Link that I've seen that can be hook up to the mydlink portal. They mydlink portal used to be used only for dealing camera for use to monitor your home remotely. But now, you can use that to also monitor the router. It also comes with mobile apps for you to do the same thing on your mobile phone. For example, on my iPhone right here, I'm running the myDlink Lite Apps and let's check on my network right now. So here I see 2 devices connected to my router right now and one of them is CNET Labs which is important and the second guy is (Chronic Facebooker?). Who is this guy? Let me block him. There you go, he's blocked. Speaker: Hey. What's the deal? Speaker: Oops. It sounds like my boss forth. Sorry. Let me unblock him. There you go. It works. You can do more with the apps such as changing the network's name or even rebooting the router completely remotely while you're on the go. In my testing, this router works really well too. It have a very decent performance, good rate and very stable signal for a router this size. Now the most important thing is of course the pricing and it's great, very friendly. It's just around $40. Now for somebody who doesn't need a high end network, this router is worth every penny. For more information on the router, check out my full review at cnet.com. You could also ask me questions via Twitter or my Facebook change. There, you can also find out what happened to me in the last 3 weeks. Once again, my name is Dong Ngo and this has been the First Look at the very first Cloud Router from D-Link, the DIR-605L.

D-Link DIR-605L Cloud Router Review

The good: The entry-level D-Link DIR-605L Cloud Router is affordable and easily manageable via the Internet, using a browser or mobile apps. The networking device also offers decent performance and a stable wireless signal.

The bad: Apart from the cloud-based novelty, the DIR-605L is a frills-free wireless router that lacks many common features found in others, such as Gigabit Ethernet, dual-band, the support for the IPv6, or guest networking.

The bottom line: The D-Link DIR-605L Cloud Router makes a great solution for those who just need a simple wireless network to share the Internet access among devices. Its cloud-based management feature also proves to be a helpful and practical bonus.
