Customize your Web site's iPhone icon Video Transcript

>> You know the icons that show up on the iPhone desktop when you make a webclip cool huh? Well if you have a blog yourself or some other kind of website try and make one of those for yourself. I'm Tom Merritt from CNET.com and that's what I'll show you how to do on today's Insider Secret. ^M00:00:17 [ Music ] ^M00:00:29

>> If you want to know how to make a web clip we have a quick tip on that here at CNET TV. But here is what you do to customize your own website's Webclip icon. I'm going to put an icon on my own site as an example. First of all you need a graphic. And they need to be 57 by 57 pixels and in the PNG format, not Gif or JPEG. Buzz out loud [inaudible] made these for me, thanks [inaudible]. I'm going to have this icon be the default for all the pages on my site. Now I need to rename the file apple-touch-icon.png. I renamed it in my FTP software there but you could do it in Windows or use the command line and the rename command. Then place the icon into the route directory of your website. Voila! It shows up on my iPhone. Now this other icon here is for my personal podcast which lives as a subsection of my main site so I need to overwrite that default icon I just made just for those podcast pages. For that you use this link tag in the head section. And you have to put it in the head of each page you want to associate it with. Much easier to do if you use style sheets. And now that icon shows up when I click my podcast page. Hope that makes your site look nice and pretty on the iPhone and thanks [inaudible] again for the images and thanks to CNET's own Alex [inaudible] for the tip off on how to do this. I'm Tom Merritt for CNET.com ^M00:02:05 [ Music ]
