Comic-Con's humble beginnings Video Transcript
-From the stars of Showtime's TV hit Dexter to the leading man from Marvel studio summer blockbuster Captain America, Comic-con has become the place to promote pop culture. -That's the whole point of coming here. You get access and you get information the rest of the world that can't make doesn't get. -But back up, that's not how Comic-con started 43 years ago. -Comics are the reason Comic-con exist. The kernel of it really started in the comic shops. Everybody comes and picks them up and they hang out and just start talking about stuff and that's exactly what happens here, but unlike an unimaginable scale to like your local shop. -But in the last 10 years, the focus started to shift from comic books to other forms of media -Comics and fantasy entertainment. It became big business. There are now comic movies that are actually big budget and do very well. -And it's just not movies, but TV shows, video games, toys, all with the common thread of sci-fi, fantasy, and fiction. -This wolverine and I'm on Comic-on. -People tend to think because it's called Comic-on it has just kind like for geeks, but the reality is they are no more geeks because let's face it geek culture is pop culture. -I'm getting an affair for some equipment here. -In San Diego, Kara Tsuboi CNET.com for CBS news.
