>> I'm Donald Bell, senior editor for digital audio and MP3 at CNET and today we are going to take a first look at the Kobe PMP 4320 portable video player. The video player is widescreen, it's about 4.3 inches. Its TFT color display, it will let you do MP3 video, FM tuner, it's got video recording, FM recording, voice recording, it's got everything in here. It's one of those devices were they really try to put as much in here as possible. The back of the device also has a kick stands. As far as an all-in-one device goes, it's nothing that really distinguishes this player amongst its competitors except its price and its price is pretty substantial. It's around $250 and for that price tag for it to be able to do video recording in the line in jacks on the side is a big deal, there's nothing else out there that's going to be a widescreen, portable video player and recorder for that price tag. Recorded content is kind of gritty, but it looks fine on this device, it is probably when displayed too well on a television screen. The front of the device has nice controls; it's got a metal little joystick control over here, a metal buttons for menu controls. The screen is a little dim for a portable video player. It also has a lot of glare; it just announces back reflections right at you which will make it hard for viewing during the daylight. The MP3 player itself when you are switching between tracks; it takes up to five seconds for it to find the next track which is a real bummer especially in this day and age of gapless play back. Should also mention that the video recording function on here is actually really easy to use, that was nice. So took this home and just hooked this up to my DVD player and hit record and I was able to record right out of the box. Over all this device has a lot of quirks but what we like about it most is that it is inexpensive, there's nothing else that even comes close to it in its price range. You have to spend at least another hundred dollars to come up with a competitive player that has the same feature set. This is Donald Bell and we just took a first look at the Kobe PMP 4320. ^M00:02:05 [ Music ]

Coby PMP-4320 portable media player (20GB) Review

Editors' rating

The good: The Coby PMP-4320 is a wide-screen media player that offers playback and recording of audio, video, and FM radio at a remarkable price.

The bad: The PMP-4320 is cursed with a small hard drive, screen glare, long loading times for audio and video, no support for DRM-protected content, an inability to sync with Windows Media Player, and a total lack of video recording quality settings. Plus, it cannot be powered via USB.

The bottom line: The Coby PMP-4320 made many compromises to meet its attractive price tag. Still, this PVP's built-in ability to record video is unprecedented for a wide-screen player in this price range.
