>> Hi, I'm Kevin Massy from CNET Car Tech and today we're taking a first look at the Clarion MAX675VD. Now this is a car stereo with many capabilities including video playback, iPod playback, all kinds of digital audio playback. Now we have it set on the iPod screen and as you can see, you get this bright screen on the left hand side of which is the, is a virtual version of the iPod wheel and to the right is a reproduction of the iPod screen itself. You'll see the layout of the text and the time, even the play bar on the bottom is taken directly from the iPod design itself. To navigate your library on your iPod, there's a strip of buttons along the top. This is a touch screen so if I wanna select my music by artists and you can see we've got an instant list of all of the artists on our iPod which is a useful way of getting through your iPod library. As you can see this small button to the left of the iPod wheel shows that this is also able to play iPod videos. This thing will also play dvd's and video cd's on this very bright, wide screen display. It's a very simple faceplate design. This isn't a unit that will require you to read a three or four hundred page manual before you can get it to work in your car. We're generally impressed with the overall design and functionality of this unit. The Clarion MAX675VD is on sale now for a price of between 600 hundred and 1000 dollars the last time I looked. So if you shop around you'll probably get a good deal. I'm Kevin Massy and today you got a first look at the Clarion MAX675VD. ^M00:01:42 [ Music ]

Clarion MAX675VD Review

The good: The Clarion MAX675VD is an elegant and feature-packed in-car multimedia system with a range of useful and intuitive media playback features, including one of the best iPod interfaces we've seen.

The bad: A couple of minor design flaws, such as the positioning of hard buttons on the far side of the driver and an incomplete source menu are our only gripes.

The bottom line: The Clarion MAX675VD was designed with digital-age drivers in mind. Its breadth of features and excellent functionality make it one of our favorite all-in-one in-car multimedia systems to date.
