Cisco Linksys E4200 v2 Maximum Performance Dual-Band N900 router Video Transcript

Hello, this is Don Ngo from CNET and this is the Linksys E4200 router from Cisco, and no, it's not the one that I talked about almost a year ago. This is the version 2 of the same device. Its full name is Linksys E4200 v2 Maximum Performance Dual-Band N900 router. This version 2 is much better than the previous model. In fact it's the latest product that win CNET's editor's choice award. While looking exactly the same as the previous model, the new E4200 v2 is a completely different router on the inside. It's now powered by a much faster processor running as 1.2 gigahertz promising much better performance. This is a true dual band router and also support the faster 3x3 450 megabytes per second Wi-Fi standard on both 2.4 gigahertz and 5 gigahertz bands. On top of that it comes with a USB port on the back to host either a printer or an external hard drive for a network storage solution. In my testing the E4200 v2 offer a super performance especially as a network storage device. It's the first router I've seen that offer a building storage performance comparable to that with a dedicated NAS server. As a Wi-Fi router it was also among the fastest I ever seen with great range and very good signal stability. Other than that the router come with the same design as the previous model and back here (unify?)... using for LAN ports and one WAN port. All these ports are gigabyte. On the front, the router has nothing but a white light that take the shape of the Cisco's logo. The light stays solid when everything is in order and flashes when something is not right or when the router is booting up. Similar to the previous version, the E4200 v2 offers a very good sets of networking features that can be managed via Cisco connect desktop software or its interface. Using the web interface you can access more features of the router than via the software such as manually naming the (WAN?) networks, managing storage features and so on and for the first time you now can also use a free mobile apps called Cisco Connect Express to monitor the router from an iOS or Android Device. All in all the new Linksys E4200 v2 offers a great improvement over the already excelling previous model. For this reason I find it totally worth the new price tag of almost $200. Hopefully the shoot price will be lower however. For more information check out the full review at CNET.com. Once again my name is Don Ngo and this is the Editor's Choice winner Linksys E4200 v2 Maximum Performance Dual-Band N900 router from Cisco.

Cisco Linksys E4200 v2 Maximum Performance Dual-Band N900 router Review

The good: Cisco Systems' Linksys E4200 v2 Maximum Performance Dual-Band N900 router offers true dual-band with concurrent 450Mbps, Gigabit Ethernet, excellent storage and 5GHz wireless throughput, and a nice set of networking features. The router looks good and includes Cisco Connect, an intuitive software application that helps home users set up and manage a home wireless network with ease.

The bad: The Linksys E4200 v2's range throughput speed on the 2.4GHz band could be better. The included desktop application can't be used to manage all of the router's settings, doesn't work well with the Web interface, and requires a live Internet connection for the initial setup.

The bottom line: The Linksys E4200 v2 makes a great upgrade to the original version and an excellent investment for those who need a fast, feature-rich, advanced, yet easy-to-use router for the home or even a small business.
