>> Dong Ngo: If you're looking for advance wireless router that's also easy to set up and manage, the latest high-end router from Cisco would be it. Hello. My name is Dong Ngo and this is the Cisco Linksys E3000 High Performance Wireless-N Router. This is a top non compromising router from Cisco's latest E-series, as a company of now just less than a month ago. It comes with everything you'd expect from a high-end router. True dual-band, can give me ethernet, guest networking, network storage, and so on. Design wise, the router looks much like previous model of Cisco router with a flat UFO shape. The router's antennae are hidden within the chassis making it more compact than routers of the same footprint. On the back, though, a router has four LAN ports for wire connections and one WAN port to hook up to a broadband modem. There's also a powerswitch and a USB port. This port can be used to hold an extra storage device for the router's network storage function. On the front, you can find an array of blue LED lights that show the status of the LAN ports, the wireless connection, the USB device, and the connection to the internet. In the middle of this light is a WiFi protected set-up or a WPS button. This button is starting to make Windows LAN, WAN when other WPS-enabled devices can enter the network. What makes the E3000 different from other high-end routers is the Cisco Connect desktop software that comes on a CD. This software is similar to that of the original review Cisco Valet Plus router and will do everything for you in regard to setting up and managing the router. A very good solution for home, non savvy users. Advanced user, however, can still access the router setting via its web interface. Unfortunately, neither the web interface nor the desktop software can give you the complete control over the router's functions and features. And the problem is they are not exactly designed to work with each other. You have to pick one of them to use. Other than that, the E3000 did well in our test as a wireless router. It has long range and fast throughput speeds. As a network storage device, however, its performance was far lower than a dedicated mass server. Nonetheless, this is one of the best router on the market and it is well worth a street price of around a hundred and fifty dollars. For more information on the router's performance and features, check out the internet review at cnet.com. My name is Dong Ngo and this has been the first look at the Linksys E3000 high-performance Wireless-N router from Cisco.

Cisco Linksys E3000 Review

Editors' rating

The good: The Linksys High Performance Wireless-N Router E3000 delivers most of what you'd expect from a high-end router, including true dual-band, Gigabit Ethernet, fast throughput, a long range, NAS functionality, a nice set of networking features, and a good Web interface. It also has an aesthetically pleasing compact design and an intuitive software application to help home users set up and manage a home wireless network with ease.

The bad: The Linksys E3000's built-in network storage function lacks speed, and its Guest networking feature is limited. It doesn't support USB printers, and its Media Server doesn't work well with large video files. The included desktop application can't be used with the router's Web interface.

The bottom line: The Linksys E3000 is the first advanced router that's also easy to use for novices. It provides great wireless performance and has a good set of useful networking features. Its mediocre NAS performance and limited guest networking feature make it significantly less than perfect, however.
