>> Hi, I'm Justin Yu, Assistant Editor for CNET.com, here today with the Canon Selphy CP760. The Selphy series is Canon's line of compact photo printers and it's mostly aimed towards families and people who aren't necessarily tech-savvy. It's good for people that wanna print out the digital photos really quickly and easily and not have to deal with complicated photo inkjets or laser printers. So the Selphy looks pretty compact at first, but when you take into consideration the overall paper trail, as well as this external paper tray, the overall footprint is actually pretty big. It's gonna take you about a foot of space on your desktop. Like I said the Selphy is pretty bare-a-bones. You can see the face plate it's pretty minimalist. It's got a button for ON, Menu, some directional pads, as well as a Print and Back button. There are some light photo editing features like image optimization and red-eye removal, but in general it's mostly geared toward people that wanna take a picture with a digital camera, plugin to this device, hit Print and be done with it. The only problem is that there is no index view, so you have to look at each photo individually before printing them out. The CP760 is different from most printers and that it uses dye sublimation technology to heat up the three colors before it puts them on to the paper. And the paper makes four passes total through the machine, three for colors and a fourth layer to protect against discoloration and extend longevity. We'd like that the paper that Canon sent us actually doubles as a postcard on the back, which makes it a fun way to send images to your friends really easily. The front of the printer has slots for SD cards, MMC cards and Memory Sticks and the side has a port for PictBridge compatible cameras, as well as a USB port for connecting to your computer. Canon also sells a Bluetooth download if you wanna print wirelessly. In terms of speed and quality, the Selphy actually printed faster than the competition. And the prints were good, not great but perfectly acceptable for the average home user and the price isn't so bad either. The Selphy is 100 bucks and you can buy extra paper on Canon's Website. So overall, I really like the Canon Selphy. I had a great time taking photos around the office and printing them out for my friends. Again, it does have a larger footprint, but if you have an extra $100 and you want a fun way to print out photos and send them to your friends, the Canon Selphy CP760 is a good way to go. So, I'm Justin Yu and this is the Canon Selphy CP760.

Canon Selphy CP760 Review

The good: Rapid prints; excellent photo quality; simple design; inexpensive.

The bad: Large footprint (including paper path) for a "compact" printer; wireless accessories not included; no index view.

The bottom line: The Canon Selphy CP760 takes the pain out of printing photos with its plug-and-play design and straightforward usability, and the $100 price tag makes it an excellent companion printer for quick prints in the home.
