>> Hi. I'm Josh Goldman, Senior Editor for CNET Reviews, and this a look at the Canon PowerShot SD940 IS. Like its line mate, the SD780 IS, the SD940 is a very small, very attractive 12-megapixel camera. It drops the SD780's optical viewfinder, and in it's place, gets a larger 2.7-inch LCD in back, and a wide angle 28-millimeter equivalent lens with a 4X zoom in front. The camera is extremely easy to operate despite these occasionally difficult to press flat buttons in back. This switch here moves you between shooting modes. The top is for Canon's reliable scene recognition mode, called "smart auto." The middle spot is for scene modes and a programmable auto mode. And the bottom position is for capturing movie clips in HD quality, though you don't get use of the optical zoom while you're recording. For fast playback on a monitor or HDTV, Canon built in a mini HDMI port. Photo quality overall is very good, though purple fringing in high-contrast areas was fairly prevalent. It also has some noticeable shutter lag in bright and dim lighting conditions. Overall though, it's a pretty great, take everywhere, ultra-compact camera. I'm Josh Goldman, and that's the Canon PowerShot SD940 IS. ^M00:01:24 [ Music ]
