>> Hi, I'm Josh Goldman Senior Editor for CNET reviews and this is the Canon Powershot SD 780 IS. It's a 12-megapixel ultra compact camera with a serviceable 3X zoom on front but most importantly it is the slimmest Canon digital elf to date. At 7/10 of an inch thick and weighing a mere 4.7 oz loaded with a battery and SD card. So it's roughly the dimensions of a credit card with the thickness of a standard DVD case. Despite its small size it's remarkably comfortable to use, except for the minuscule view finder above its 2.5 inch LCD. The buttons are a little flat too so that takes some getting used to but otherwise it's a pretty uncomplicated camera to use. Shooting options are minimal. You get Canon's smart auto which chooses settings for you based on 18 different scenes. Then there's a program auto mode letting you change settings such as ISO and light balance and you also get HD movie capture mode which yields good results but you don't get use of the optical zoom. You won't mistake its photo quality for that of a larger, more expensive camera but it ranks in the top of its class. It has decent performance too though its shot to shot times could be a little better. If you need a tiny camera for your pocket or purse this is a camera strongly worth your consideration. The bottom line: If you need an ultracompact camera for your pocket or purse, strongly consider the Canon PowerShot SD780 IS.
