>> Hi! I'm Lori Grunin, Senior Editor with CNET.com here at Digital Focus at PMA 2008 with the tiniest of Canon cameras, the Powershot SD1100. This replaces Canon's popular compact over compact. The resolution is increased to 8 mega pixels. It has the same 3x zoom lens. The big thing is the introduction of image stabilization that uses Canon's Optical Stabilization Technology. I happen to think that the brown is a really nice color and should be very popular this year. It is 250 dollars which is a little pricey, but as I said it replaces a very popular model and I expect this one should be pretty popular as well. A very good compact camera, the 10-megapixel Canon PowerShot SD900 nonetheless falls short of its faster, more full-featured, albeit lower-resolution competitors.
The Canon PowerShot SD550 is a very well-designed, 7-megapixel snapshot camera. Just don't look for advanced controls.
Canon's PowerShot SD1100 IS adds optical image stabilization to last year's hit SD1000, while delivering just-as-impressive image quality.
Aside from a couple performance quibbles, the Canon PowerShot A1100 IS provides a good point-and-shoot experience with great pictures as a result.
The PowerShot A580 features nearly identical hardware as the A590, but with a slimmed-down feature set. It keeps the same 8-megapixel resolution and 4x optical zoom lens as the A590 IS, but forgoes the optical stabilization system and accessory lens compatibility. Worse yet for skilled users, it lacks the A590 IS' manual exposure controls.
