>> Hello, I'm Phil Ryan senior editor at CNET.com taking a look at the Cannon Powershot SD850IS. The 850IS is a part of Cannon's Elf line though it's a little larger than most Elfs it still should fit in almost any pocket. It's an 8.3 mega pixel camera and it's got a 2 and a half inch LCD screen and a 4X optical zoom lens. That's a little longer than the 3X optical zoom you find in most compact cameras. The IS in the name denotes optical image stabilization so it's just a little lens element inside the lens to keep things steady. And given that the camera has Cannons digit 3 processor, it also can reach sensitivities up to ISO 1600, though in our tests we suggest you stay below ISO 800. It also has an optical view finder in it, which is somewhat rare in compact cameras and can help in situations when you need to back up just a little bit more to get the shot. It has face detection, which is becoming more and more popular these days. Image quality from this camera was every nice especially at lower ISOs and add to that the image stabilization and other nice features and its compact size and it should be a good camera for almost anyone. I'm Phil Ryan and this is the Cannon Powershot SD850IS. [ Music ]

Canon PowerShot SD850 IS Review
The good: Great performance and image quality; solid image stabilization; face detection.
The bad: No manual exposure controls; on/off button a bit awkward; noisy images at ISO 1,600.
The bottom line: The Canon PowerShot SD 850 IS has just about everything you'd want in a point-and-shoot.
