>> Hi, I'm Josh Goldman, Senior Editor for CNET reviews, and this is a look at the Canon FS200. It's a standard definition camcorder with a 37X optical zoom in a very compact body. Part of the reason it's so small is that it records to SD or SDHC cards only. There is no internal storage. The FS200 is simple to operate, thanks to a responsive joystick next to the 2.7-inch LCD, as well as this clearly labeled row of buttons. It's also one of the few camcorders in its price range to offer a mic input and headphone output. Smack in the center of the back is a record button and your mode dial. The FS-200 can record movies and photos, or there's a dual shot option, let's you switch between capturing stills and video without changing modes. What's also sort of cool is the video stat mode, that let's you grab four-second movie clips, and then string them together with one of the 10 supplied music tracks, or your own music, basically creating a seamless video slideshow. It's great and all, but what about the video, right? Well, it is standard definition, so it's not going to touch HD quality. But for SD, it's very good. Load out highlights were the biggest problem, but color was good, and only lowlight video was distractingly noisy, which is typical for its class. Unless you're really picky about quality, or you're expecting HD from an SD camcorder, you shouldn't be disappointed with its movies.
