Can Panasonic's best LED compete with its plasmas? Video Transcript
-- I'm David Katzmaier with CNET and this is the Panasonic TCL 47 WT fifty. This is Panasonic's best LCD TV for a point well it's not -- DVR. Sees -- 47 app. 55 inch size. Panasonic is now start to get into the larger screen LCDs that -- a little -- directly its core cap plasma business. And as I alluded to earlier this TV is not as good overall as the plasma TVs from Panasonic we've tested. Talk about its value now that is it really darn nice this. LE DT has a very thin bezel around the -- -- black with a silver -- extreme edge and also a big fan of the -- -- kind of a V shape not. Kind of lets the TV suspend about the stand with -- sort of swivel here and it's over sets off the black of -- -- nicely on -- one of the nicest looking TVs we've tested this year. Panasonic also present plenty of features Thomas that you do get a second remote with this TV -- -- touchpad model -- like -- -- -- found on. A laptop computer that works very well actually get pretty good responsiveness to driver on the screen and it's actually particularly impressive for the web browser which otherwise be. Really difficult to use possibly zooming around titles and stuff like that on Netflix and Amazon video on demand for example. Of course this TV has a full Smart TV suite with those video services and also has a couple extra audio services that I just -- -- rhapsody which is a subscription music service that I really like. -- so all told the contents like -- really good I love the fact you can rearrange the icons as much you want. Don't love the fact of the CD has built an advertising when you first turn it on there's a little banner ad pops up. Panasonic also schools based advertise on its home page you can disable that banner -- that you can't disable the advertising anywhere on its Smart TV suite so again more advertising and we've seen on any TV built in. -- -- like the picture setting seems pretty good you do get plenty of adjustments in the custom picture mode as well as the cinema mode. -- when we delved into how are we found that cinema did not allow you to turn off dejudder which is this smoothing effect that has sometimes -- -- the soap opera effect. We really didn't let them like it and really wish you could turn it off and cinema mode. You have to actually switched to another picture mode -- custom more standards turn it off so it's kind of downside. Even after I disabled smoothing I've found the picture quality and the BT fifty V due below a lot of the other high end LE DTVs competing against. Black levels are relatively light and its color is not as accurate as I like to see at this level. In its favor of the WT fifty and excellent off angle viewing its picture maintain fidelity better than any LE DTV I've seen soliciting either side on the couch and actually give you a better picture than on a lot of the other LE DTVs out there. Panasonic does provide claim inputs on the -- back panel is four HDMI three USB and a PC input. You can also connect component or composite video using -- included breakout cable. It does include 3-D glasses or and that's on the downside of such an expensive TV. Anyway that's a quick look at Panasonic's TCL WT fifty series I'm David Katzmaier.

Panasonic TC-L55WT50 Review
The good: The Panasonic TC-LWT50-series LED TV showed the best off-angle performance of any LCD I've tested, and its screen was quite uniform. Its 3D performance was good with little crosstalk. The styling is sleek with an ultrathin frame and unique horseshoe stand. Plenty of useful features are onboard, including a well-designed Smart TV suite and a touch-pad remote.
The bad: The high-priced WT50 has a sub-par 2D picture, reproducing a lighter shade of black than many cheaper LEDs. Panasonic inexplicably saddled the best default picture mode with compulsory smoothing, and the other modes have color accuracy issues. The TV doesn't come with 3D glasses.
The bottom line: Class-leading quality from off-angle can't excuse the expensive Panasonic TC-LWT50's disappointing picture when seen from the sweet spot.
