>> Behind me is the first car even introduced at an electronics show, not here at the Detroit Auto Show. This is the Cadillac Provoke, it debuted at the Consumer Electronics Show at the top of 2008, because it's an electric, pure electric. So hydrogen fuel cell creates the electricity that gets stored in a lithium ion battery pack, and drives electric motors. In fact it's all-wheel drive so you've got hub mounted motors on the rear wheels, and then a central motor for the front axle front wheels. You don't want to waste electricity when you're using precious hydrogen, so the whole roof is a big solar panel that is meant to gather electricity from the sun, and store up a separate reservoir to run various accessories on the cars. Hydrogen will be about a thirteen pound fill-up, gotta get your head wrapped around that, and that'll be good for three hundred miles they say. Now of course hydrogen supply is the hard part. And check this out. A set of movable louvres on the front of the car will give it better aerodynamics at high speed, or if necessary, open up to cool the whole electric lithium apparatus. Dig the crazy tread pattern on these concept tires, like the soul of a Bruno Magli shoe. By the way, performance isn't bad on this, zero to sixty in 8.5 they envision. [ background music ] It's all very Blue Sky right now, but GM is gonna get into serious trials in the field of lithium ion battery packs early and mid-2008. ^M00:01:28
