Buzz Report special: Gadgetpalooza! Video Transcript
Hi, I'm Molly Wood, and welcome to the Buzz Report ? the show about the tech news that everybody?s talking about. This week, it?s Gadgets of the Week. Seriously. There wasn't much news this week, but there were a ton of cool new products ... and therefore, I'm doing a special Buzz Report edition: Buzz Report Gadgetpalooza! Let's start with the Gadget of the Week. Such as it is. It's the Zune HD, which finally made its debut this week ... to mixed reviews. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's got a gorgeous screen, HD radio integration, high-def video playback and output, and the ZunePass -- 15 dollars a month for unlimited streaming plus 10 free song downloads a month ... it's nice, it's sleek, you know. But, well, as Donald says: See, and I could definitely say, you know, come on, world, man up and try something new, get off the iPod crack and give the Zune a chance, it's awesome! Except that ... it has no app store. Dude. You launched a WiFi-enabled media device in this day and age without an app store? Microsoft? You are KILLING ME. Then again, in other gadget news this week, you could be the Archos 5 Internet Tablet. Which sounds awesome. A 4.8-inch touchscreen, 500 gigs of storage, GPS, Wi-Fi, it works as a DVR if you plug it into your TV, and it's running the Android operating system -- which DOES have an app store. So, that all sounds cool. But like most of these Archos gadgets, it's basically a lot of super awesome tech firepower that you can't quite figure out how to use ... and you can't quite figure out why you need it. For between 220 and 440 dollars. Then again ... it's a lot of awesome with apps for not much more than a Zune HD. So, you know. There's that. Ok, another Gadget of the Week? HP's latest Vivienne Tam edition netbook ... oh, I'm sorry. Digital clutch. I love this fashion meets tech business, except that in this case, there's been no word on the actual tech. The last Vivienne Tam netbook, which, yes, I bought, was an HP Mini 1000. No word on what model this new Netbook will be when it debuts in spring 2010. But it is supposed to make ""women around the world... feel independent and free, like butterflies." Uh. Ok. Personally? I'm sticking with my first edition Vivienne Tam. Butterflies? So literal. Of course, this week is also the Frankfurt Auto Show, and to us? Cars are gadgets. And as long as we're talking about beautiful and high-style new gadgets? Can we LOOK at the Mercedes SLS AMG? Gullwing doors, long gorgeous lines, real-wheel drive ... 571 horsepower ... I cried a little bit. But there's a catch. And there it is. The buzzkill. Finally in gadget news, get ready. Because apparently on Monday, September 21st, the way you listen to music is going to change forever. Yeah. Forget the new iPods and the Zune HD. The revolution is upon us and it's ... coming from Sony Ericsson. They say. Now. We don't know what they plan to announce, only that it's an accessory that, according to them, will change the way you listen to music forever. Uh. You know, ok, whatever, benefit of the doubt. We'll see. It had better be good, guys, with that kind of hype. Or else we're going to be calling you "Segway" Ericsson. And that does it for this week's Buzz Report GadgetPalooza. If you just can't live without tech news, well, Facebook says it now has 300 million users, and is like, making some money. So, kudos to those guys. I'm Molly Wood, and thanks for watching.
This week, the Buzz Report pays homage to the tech stories and the gadgets that kept Molly (and hopefully you) rolling in the aisles this year.
We look back on the best moments from the Buzz Report, from the gadgets to the news to the awesome animation. Happy New Year!
A struggling salesman (Will Smith), poised to begin a life-changing professional endeavor, takes custody of his son (Jaden Smith).
Lots of stories with buzz today, including a new Archos Android tablet, the launch of Zune HD, and voice chat on Facebook. Of course Joe the pilot in Honolulu sent us some good old fashioned Phillipino Whiskey and Rum. So Cooley makes us pause and do a tasting. Poor Natali gets left out though. Sad.
Writer Caprice Crane joins us in the studio today to tell us what it's like writing for shows like 90210 (2.0) and Melrose Place. She also gets life-changing news half-way into today's pre-show, so tune into Monday's show to find out how to win a copy of her book, "Little Luck."
The intrepid Buzz Report crew brings you the *real* highlights from CES 2008, including what might be the best Gadget of the Week ever.
On this, the day of the Zune HD, Donald and Jasmine naturally talk about the now-available player and its updated Zune Software and Marketplace, but the day would not be complete without some love for the next-generation Archos 5, a super sweet Internet media tablet with everything but the kitchen sink.
Between the company's patent woes and its upcoming announcement, there's enough Apple news this week to keep the doctor away for months. It's the Buzz Report!
A human Tetris piece, Microsoft making a mess, and a Special K surprise--all on this week's Buzz Report.
This week on the Buzz Report, the Eye makes some serious changes, and Microsoft just cannot leave Yahoo alone.
