>> Hello I'm Brian Cooley, in for Molly Wood who's jumping out of a plane today to get a feel for what it's like to be a share of Google. Welcome to the Buzz Report. First, the Gadget of the Week. It's the new iPhone. Well kind of. The iPhone just got a graft of eight gig additional memory, creating a sixteen gig version along with the original eight. Now of all the things on my iPhone wish list, you know, the one that's kept me and apparently a lot of you from buying one, doubling the RAM is way down here. Stuff like 3G, integration with Exchange, and video capture rank a lot higher. Well, at least now the iPhone has enough room to hold my Why I Won't Buy an iPhone Yet list. Now the news. Speaking of Apple. Rumor has it new MacBook Pros are in the offing. The site Mac Rumors says it got a peek inside Best Buy's inventory system, showing a new MacBook Pro arriving as soon as next week. So what's new? Well it's all a guess right now. Maybe new CPUs since Intel has some fresh ones the MacBook could certainly take advantage of. Or maybe that goofy multi-touch interface, you know, the one that lets you pinch and drag your way to getting things done. That's great news for folks who like to play with their food. But with the MacBook Air still scaring off folks who want an Ethernet jack, optical drive, and more than one USB port, whatever the new Pro has is going to be a compelling mix. Even if it does require wearing a bib. Oh, sorry. And while most things in tech cost less as they mature, apparently DSL is not one of those. AT and T just raised rates on many of its DSL packages by about five dollars a month. The standard corporate BS was offered, to better reflect the value of broadband service and the market conditions my man. In other words, they have to squeeze more juice out of fewer lemons, that's you. Because DSL subscriber rates are slowing based on a cool economy, and the fact that most people who want broadband probably have broadband. So clearly, if you're holding your breath for the day when we all get free ad supported broadband, you might want to start breathing again. We're getting awfully blue. Okay, I guess I can't wrap the show without saying something about that ponderous Microsoft Yahoo deal. Look, unless you're a fan of Inside Baseball of the corporate variety, it's basically a snooze. Two kind of ancient companies who checked their mojo at the door of the twenty first century are trying to bend their arthritic joints enough to climb into bed and hump like oxygenarians. And Google's afraid of this? I mean I haven't seen such a pissy reaction since Belacheck decided fifty nine minutes of football was enough. Maybe Google's afraid the combined company will catch up to them in one key area, goofiness of name. I mean Microhoo would actually look sillier on a business card than Google.
