Buzz Report: Mars edition Video Transcript

Hi, I'm Molly Wood, and welcome to the Buzz Report. This week, it's a special episode dedicated to the Mars lander, Phoenix, and its adventures on, you guessed it, Mars! But first, the gadget of the week. The Gadget of the Week is the Mars Phoenix lander! $500 million dollars, seven feet tall, five feet around, with an 18-foot solar array and a seven-foot-long robotic arm for digging in the dirt. It's powered by the sun and lithium ion batteries, and it takes GREAT photos. It'll spend about three months on Mars before Martian winter comes, and it, uh, probably dies. Up there. All alone. So, you know. Don't get too attached. Sniffle. And now for the news. As you may have guessed, space nerds are in HEAVEN this week. The Mars lander Phoenix made a successful landing on the red planet this past Sunday. And in just a short time, it's already sent back a treasure trove of information -- including some INCREDIBLE pictures. NASA is really trying to drum up interest in this space mission, so this Mars lander is one Web 2.0 dude. It's using Twitter, the popular microblogging service, to report on what it's up to from the surface of Mars. Let's see what kinds of things the Mars Phoenix has to Twitter about. Awake on Mars. Need coffee. OMG coffee, so good. Totally hungover, stayed up way too late at NASA launch party. Thinking about rocks. Rocks r0x0r! ROFLMAO! Eating a donut. On Mars. Oh. So, pretty much the same old boring crap most people twitter about. Well, anyway. Part of the Mars Phoenix mission is to determine whether life ever existed on Mars. The images the rover is sending are already pretty promising. They think the Phoenix might be close to ice crystals that could contain all kinds of clues. And then, of course, there are more dramatic findings, like this: That explains a lot. And now let's have a look at what's Clogging the Tubes. It's Weezer's new video for their song, "Pork and Beans," and it's Internet-TASTIC! Haha, see, it's so funny and awesome because it's totally about us and what we all think is hilarious ... I don't know. I thought it was ok. Actually. I thought it was kind of stupid. Like, kinda try too hard. I guess it worked, though. Is that all it takes to GO VIRAL? The squirrel? It's too easy now. Anyway. Time for a real Internet superstar. Here's ... What The Hell, with Brian Cooley. I was strolling through one of those bed & bath superstores the other day, wondering if I'd rather be there or stabbing myself with a dull, rusty knife. Tough call. But then amidst all the chintz and ruffles and shams I spotted a piece of tech. Glory Be! It had the unfortunate name of "Toilet Tunes". Sounded more like a situation to be avoided than a product to be had. But I figure I'd Google it later. Which I did. I expected it to be another iPod dock, albeit with a really bad name. Not even close. Are you OK in there? Fine. Coffee? Want more privacy in the bathroom? Introducing Toilet Tunes. Your bathroom privacy solution. Just peel and stick the wireless sensor under the lid, then place the digital sound machine anywhere in the bathroom. Whenever you use the toilet, music goes on. (music) What the HELL!? I've got news for them, applying a soundtrack to your lower GI tract isn't going to fool anyone. And by the way, Toilet Tunes is no iPod ? ? you're basically stuck with the music selections they put on there. Which could go really wrong. (music ? Wagner's 'Ride of the Valkyries') I don't ... where does he FIND this stuff? Anyway. I'm Molly Wood, and this has been the Buzz Report. Thanks for watching.
