>> Nicole Lee: I'm Nicole Lee associate editor for CNET.com and this is a first look at the BlueAnt Q1 Bluetooth headset. As you can see here's a very nice sleek gun metal design here. On the front here is multifunction button. On the side here is volume rocker. On the back here is also a very soft rubber ear bud. It also comes with different size ear bud as well as an optional ear hook.
>> Welcome to the BlueAnt Q1.
>> As with the BlueAnt VI the good thing about the Q1 is that there is no need to refer to the manual to know how to pair. All you do is just wear the Q1, turn it on and follow the voice prompt tutorial to pair and connect your phone. There is no voice recognition tutorial involved. Some voice commands include teach me; for tips and tricks on how to use the Q1. You can also say, what can I say for the voice commands you can say answer to answer a call, redial for last number redial and so forth. Unlike on the BlueAnt V1 you cannot map the call command to specific words. However, you can call speed dial numbers like speed dial 1, speed dial 2 and so forth. The one covet of getting the Q1 to work properly is that you have to angle the headset in such a way so that the mic points toward your mouth. Overall the call quality was very good. Callers could hear us loud and clear whether we were in a quiet office environment or in a moving vehicle. However the wind noise handling wasn't as good. Callers could definitely hear the wind noise in the background and our voice didn't sound as clear as it should be. The BlueAnt Q is $129 retail. BlueAnt Q1 Bluetooth Headset Review
The good: The BlueAnt Q1 is a slim and stylish Bluetooth headset with an innovative voice user interface that lets you control the headset entirely with your voice. There's no voice recognition tutorial, and the audio quality is very good.
The bad: The voice controls on the BlueAnt Q1 sometimes would not work properly if the alignment is off or if you're in a particularly noisy environment. It takes some fiddling to fit the headset properly.
The bottom line: Despite a few minor issues, the BlueAnt Q1's voice controls and good audio quality sets this apart from other headsets.
