Best video games of 2010 Video Transcript
Arguably the biggest phenomenon in entertainment today: Video games. But which were the best of 2010? Im B.C. with a Top 5 that is almost more fun in one place than allowed by law: Top 5 Video Game releases of 2010. Load these, then call in sick for a year. #5 is Call of Duty: Black Ops: When you sell 7 million copies in 24 hours and get condemned by the Cuban government, you know youre doing something right. This 7th edition of the Call of Duty franchise is out on all the consoles and improved in just about all aspects: Single player mode is great but it really shines as an online multiplayer experience. Customization is extensive of both you and your weapons. Black Ops is set in the Cold War, but there have been rumors the games creators are licensing music from the 70s, so the next edition could say Good Morning, Vietnam. #4 is Mass Effect 2. The fun starts in the year 2183 as main character Cmdr. Shepherd is killed right off the bat. His corpse is recovered and worked on for 2 years until hes back to life. Many of you HMO members can relate. Then he puts together a crew of humans and krogans and salarians and vegetarians and God knows what else to head out and exact revenge. We think the personalities and interactions among the cast are one of its best features. Its on PC and 360 now, with PS3 expected January 2011. #3 is Super Mario Galaxy 2. This is a major sequel to Galaxy which sends Mario to outer space to duke it out with King Bowser who has taken over the universe and nabbed Princess Peach. Mario is dead set on getting her back, which is a relief considering this is the game where he finally gets the ability to ride Yoshi. Unsettling distractions aside, this is a great title that works for all ages, but only on the Wii. #2 is probably the best game ever on the PS3: God of War III. Its brutal, filled with vengeance and based on Greek Mythology so youll be decimating mythological creatures with an almost quaint assortment of blades, whips, claws and the like. But dont be fooled : Its technically and graphically stunning and one of the few games that uses every bit of whats inside your PS3. Before we get to #1, I can tell you it will not be the best selling video game release of 2010: That honor goes to our #5 game, Black Ops. It sold $650 million worth in just its first 5 days an all time 5-day record, possibly for any kind of media -- and is projected to do at least $820 million in sales If you slotted that against top grossing movies of all time, it would be about 25th, beating Independence Day, DaVinci Code and all of those damned Twilight movies. OK, our #1 video game of 2010 is Red Dead Redemption. And they said Westerns were gone. This ones set in the early 1900s in the Old West, and is a Leone-esque tale of avenging, double crossing and extortion: Wife and kid are taken by the Feds until you do a task for them, but then they screw you anyway. Today we call that an audit. But what makes it #1is just outstanding game play & control and amazing production values. PS3 and 360 only for this one. BTW, if you want to see Top games 6-10 of 2010, check out Jeff Bakalars slide show of all of them from whence we pinched our list. Its OK, I gave him a ride on Yoshi. Im Brian Cooley, thanks for watching.
