>> Hi. This is Eric Franklin from CNET.com, and today we're looking at the BenQ V2400W. But we're not gonna look at it in here. No, I like the First Look studios as much as the next guy, but actually it's kind of boring in here. And to be quite honest, it really reeks of Donald Bell. The BenQ is one good-looking monitor. Yeah, it has this nice, glossy black finish around the screen, which contrasts nicely with the foot stand, which has a nice, gray matte finish. The foot stand's actually pretty unique in that it protrudes from the right side as opposed to the middle, which most displays do. This allows you to reach the video connections a lot easier. [ Toilet flushing ] The BenQ's bevel is about 0.7-inches thick, and the display itself is about an inch thick at its shortest point, making it the thinnest 24-inch display we've yet tested. The display rotates back about 20-degrees, but it doesn't rotate left or right, nor does it pivot. Mmm. [ Paper rattling ] The head of the screen is non-adjustable, and the screen sits about four inches from the desk. The BenQ's brightness is relatively low, which means that it has really deep blacks. So its contrast ratio actually match BenQ's claim of 1000:1. DVD playback was great, with vibrant colors and a very sharp picture, especially for a DVD. All of the OSD buttons emit a blue LED light when touched. I wish, however, there was an option to keep the lights on at all times. Excuse me. [ Clicking sound ] The buttons are flat and don't protrude from the display, so it's difficult to tell where one end and another begins. This can be troublesome if you're trying to calibrate the OSD in a dark room. At $423.00, this is an excellent deal. Given the screen size, which is 24-inches, and the inclusion of both DVI and HDMI. DVD playback was excellent. It has a high contrast ratio, but a low brightness. So I guess the First Look studio wasn't such a bad idea after all. Once again, I'm Eric Franklin. This has been the First Look at the BenQ V2400W. ^M00:02:08 [ Music ] ^M00:02:09 ...lights on at all times. Excuse me. ^M00:02:12 [ Laughter ] ^M00:02:18

>> That is my fault. [Inaudible] my fault. [ Beep ]

>> Excuse me. Aw, [beep].

>> Right in my face.

>> Did I get your face?

>> Yeah.

>> [Beep]. Sorry. ^E00:02:28

BenQ V2400W Review

Editors' rating

The good: Unique and aesthetically pleasing design with offset neck; thinnest 24-inch LCD we've seen; great overall performance, particularly on our contrast ratio benchmark when it exhibited deep blacks; easily accessible video connections.

The bad: Nonadjustable screen height; no screen rotation feature; OSD buttons are a little on the sensitive side; low maximum brightness.

The bottom line: With its offset neck and thin chassis, the BenQ V2400W presents a unique look. In addition to the sleek design, its low price and strong performance earn this 24-inch LCD our recommendation for home or office use.
