>> Hey, guys. This is Eric Franklin from Cnet.com. And today we're looking at the BenQ E2400 HD. I'll be comparing this monitor to the Dell ultra sharp 2408WP and the Dell S2409W. Right off the bat I want to say that this monitor can be found for as low as 300 bucks. But, for that price, it makes a few sacrifices. First sacrifice is ergonomic options. While the Dell 2408 has, you know, screen head adjustment, rotation, pivoting, this monitor has none of those. It does tilt back about 20 to 30 degrees and it does tilt forward about 5 degrees. But that's about it as far as ergonomic options are concerned. The second place it makes sacrifices is in connection options. One again the Dell 2408 has tons of connection options. It has, you know, two DVI ports, has display port, component, S-video. This monitor, the BenQ, has HGMI, DVI and VGA, and that's all you are getting. However, one thing I was impressed by was this foot stand. I mean, this thing is like a brick of a foot stand and it's even shaped like a foot with a heel and everything. It's really solid. And when I push on it like this, it hardly wobbles at all. It stays really solid. Maybe move it round a little bit, but it doesn't really wobble a lot. We tested the display in games and movies and it performed well in both. However, in movies it didn't quite perform as well as the Dell 2409. The blacks just weren't as deep. The display does have built-in speakers and the built-in headphone jack. But we found that the volume for the speakers are a little bit low. We would like them to be a little bit higher. The onscreen display has many useful options, but it's kind of clunky and the learning curve takes a little bit too much to get used to. If you are in the market for a low prices 24-inch monitor, we actually recommend the Dell S2409W. It has slightly better performance and the OST option gives it it's edge. Once again, this is Eric Franklin and this has been the first look at the BenQ E2400 HD.

BenQ E2400HD Review
The good: Low price; good performance in games and movies at optimal viewing angle; built-in speakers and headphone jack; solid footstand prevents wobbling.
The bad: Black level not as deep as we prefer; bad lower viewing angle; lack of ergonomic support; includes only a VGA cable.
The bottom line: The BenQ E2400HD is a 24-inch monitor that sacrifices features for price, but doesn't have enough going for it to best its competition.
