Bend it like Corning Willow Glass Video Transcript

Hey everyone, this is Jessica Dolcourt from CNET, here at CES 2013 in Las Vegas. This is your very first look at Corning's Willow Glass. This is actually a bendable glass that we will see in application soon. So, things such as smartphones, tablets, laptops. One application is actually as a wrap around display, so could wrap around a smartphone for example, or even can form to the curves of CNET's booth here at CES. That is one very possible application. So, this is extremely light and thin. It looks like plastic right now because the glass is actually on the inside and it's covered with this plastic laminate, but it is actually the width of a business card that's 0.1 millimeter thin. Now, this not to be confused with Corning's Gorilla Glass, which is a different type of cover glass that is meant to protect the surfaces, the outside of a smartphone for example. Where we're gonna see this glass most is actually going to be on the inside underneath layers of phone to optimize for touch screens. Now Corning just announced the product this past June. They're gonna start mass production in the second half of 2013, and you can expect to start seeing devices using this flexible Willow Glass in the early part of 2014, so maybe next year at CES. I'm Jessica Dolcourt for CNET. You can catch all of our CES news at CNET.com.
